AVG Full Version - 0 Immunet Free Version - 4

Recommended Posts

I ran a full AVG scan, the full version, mind, and nothing was reported as being amiss. I immediately ran an Immunet full scan. The Immunet scan picked up these loathsome beasties: W32.Downloader(s)

AO273168.exe

AO238487.exe

AO214145.exe

hpospd08.exe

I have since conducted numerous tasks set by the AVG chaps re, diagnostic scans, etc, etc. I was cheerfully informed, after hours of different scans, farting about, that my PC was 'Infection Free'. Erm, yes, I already know this: Immunet have quarantined the four (4) intruders that you [AVG] failed to detect.

My question to AVG: How can my fully-paid-up AVG, a giant of the anti-virus race, be beaten hand down by Immunet Protect, a Jason of the free-ware tribe?

This is the answer, after rephrasing my question numerous times, that I received:

"Possibly the infected objects were not detected by AVG because they

are not in our virus definitions at the moment. There are a lot of new

virus samples every day and even if we try to do our best, there could

be an undetected infection."

I asked how I was expected to have any confidence in the multi-faceted AVG Web of Protection in the future? How could Goliath be slain oh so easily?

I was seriously consider jumping ship completely and getting the Immunet full version. I prowl around and find more than one post complaining, quite understandably, that the full version wasn't as reliable (slowed down the PC) as the free version.

In a nut: has anyone got any idea why Immunet's Virus Definitions Database is more up to date and effective than the AVG whole-kit-kaboodle-and-the-kitchen-sink version.

Keep it Clean!

AVG has always been ***p... It don't have any Zero-day protection, and if it still had a Definition for those viruses.. it could have 70% chance of NOT CLEANING the stuff. My suggestion: Don't ever buy AVG, get Avast! or Avira etc. Its much better. ;-)

Cheers,

Armin.

Get Immunet plus and run solo. The slow down issue should be gone in next release (yes next release is much faster ;) )

I'm running Avira V10 Personal free with Immunet V2.0 Protect free, no infections period. BTW Pedersen when are you planning on posting an Immunet Protect V2.0 User Signature Bar? Before the next version hopefully I'd like to add it to my profile here and on other security forums, I'm waiting......  :D

Get Immunet plus and run solo.

Even when online and with Tetra, until Spero gets turned on, that might not be the best advice. Unless I completely misunderstand the ramifications of its current state, learning with no conviction versus the goal of learning with conviction yet to be implemented.

hpospd08.exe is a Hewlett Packard application (Do you have an Office Jet?) which got hits a couple of months back and has since been tagged as a false positive in most AV databases.

The AO*.exe files are more enigmatic and including the full path(s) would have been a far more thorough submission in your posting.

In any event, try submitting them to

http://www.virustotal.com/

and post up the finding here.

Don't get me wrong - I'm a BIG fan of Immunet especially with Tetra's Bitdefender platform. But while AVG got some less than stellar results in some tests last year, they tweaked their product and since have received excellent scores lately - most notably in VB100's June 2010 RAP detections test with 92.16% - third place out of 33 apps. The top score was 94.16% by Trustport which happens to use the AVG and Bitdefender engines.

Let's not turn this forum into another Wilduhs Sekürity with knee-jerk reactions and unsubstantiated slamming. :)

Cheers!
