sweidre
Hi all users of ASC! Advanced SystemCare 4 Free & Pro, that has many very useful modules, has left its Beta testing and been released as Final! But I downloded the free version from IObit, CNET, & Major Geeks with the same resukt : two files missing: "rtl120.bpl" & "rtl70.bpl"! The sofware works anyhow, but not two of its many modues! So its advisable to wait a few days, until this "Final" version has been completed! Cheers, sweidre
sweidre
Hi, Today, new updates are available for downloding & installation: 1. CCleaner 3.0.6.1433 (64-bit) 2. Java-6u25 x64 3. 5 Microsoft updates (whereof 2 important & 3 recommended) I had no problems to have them installed! Cheers, sweidre
sweidre
Hi, I have download Nexus Personal BankID v.4.170 (freeware) from www.nexussafe.com . It is very useful, when you legitimate yourself to banks, tax authorities, & other institutions with your "strong" pasword as signature! By a curtain menu in the software, you can select from three languages: English, French, & Swedish Cheers, sweidre
ritchie58
I used the Pro version of Advanced System Care until recently. I managed to get a free one year license activation to the Pro version from CNET for being an active member. After the license expired I uninstalled it because of redundancy with other utilities / cleaners that I use. The Turbo Boost is a cool feature though. I also liked the Internet Booster. That seemed to work pretty well at tweaking a little more speed out of my browser after some experimenting with the settings. I did see at CNET that it has been updated and might give this new version a try after they fix the install bug. This new version is supposed to have an all new more user friendly interface. Hi Ritchie, Once upon a time, I was the Swedish Translator of ASC Beta. I got therefore a Pro license for one year. When the license expired, I downgraded to the Free version. Nowadays I am only using the Sup_DiskCleaner.exe of ASC 3 Free only. Turbo Boost & other important features I have in TuneUp Utlities (shareware). So the only part of ASC, that I need is Sup_DiskCleaner.exe, that I think is the same in ASC 4 (my guess). Cheers, sweidre
ritchie58
Since I was a former Pro user of Advanced System Care they sent me an email today that has a link that explains the new features and requirements of the free version 4. It even has some screen shots of the new interface. For anyone interested in trying ASC 4 Free you can download it from IObit at this link. ritchie58
Ok Sweidre between you and IObit you got my curiosity up. I downloaded the installer package from the link I provided and will install and give this version a try. The download redirects you to CNET and is kind of a big installer at 29.05 MB. sweidre
Ok Sweidre between you and IObit you got my curiosity up. I downloaded the installer package from the link I provided and will install and give this version a try. The download redirects you to CNET and is kind of a big installer at 29.05 MB. Hi Ritchie, I have the installer files for the Free ASC from 26 April both with the size 29,746 kB on my Z-drive (for import only): 1. asc4-setup-cnet.exe (from CNET after refering from IObit) 2. asc-setup-aff.exe (from Major Geek) When installing them I received messages, that two files were missing: "Please, install again!" (Of course, those two installer programs I will not try again; a new updated installer software is then needed first). Maybe, a new installer file is already fixed! But, when I tried ASC4, there were at least two other modules, that were available in the PRO version only! (But, those two modules I have as freestanding working freewares already). If we disregard the 2 missing files, it seems, that ASC4 is now a more complete umbrella program including a lot of more modules, that were earlier issued as freestanding freewares, but now are avaible in the PRO version only. What will happen with my freestanding freewares, that still are working? I'll wait & see! Cheers, sweidre PS. As we say in Sweden: "Never change a winning team!" DS. ritchie58
Sweidre, I went ahead and installed ASC 4. I didn't have any trouble with the installation as you did. All files were installed completely. The new interface is going to take a little getting use to. I do have some good news regarding this version. I ran the system vulnerability check and it discovered a Microsoft critical update for .NET Framework 4 that hadn't installed properly. I knew there was a problem with that update since I would get error messages every time I tried to install it. The program downloaded and installed the update with absolutely no problem! That certainly impressed me quite a bit!

If you have got the Free version, did you find any modules (2?), that in the new version require the PRO version? Personally, I am now satisfied with the required module sup_Diskcleaner.exe from ASC 3 Free + the standalone IObit Freewares: SmartDefrag 2.1 with at boot-time defrag, Freeapps.exe v.1.1 (listing of all IObit's freewares), and ToolBox.exe (v.1.2). The other modules I do not need, because I have them in other softwares especially in TuneUp Utilities. My ESET (NOD32) turns yellow, if I have not installed important or recommended MS Updates. The extra reminder by ASC 4 about missing MS Updates is a good feature, though. (I doubt, that it will cause any conflict with the reminder by ESET). I am a little afraid, that if I try again to have ASC 4 Free, it will require the PRO versions regarding the modules, that very well are now working as freewares. Regarding ".NET Framework 4" I cannot search for it properly using the search function! (so, if I have it installed or not, I do not know! I can find C:\Windows\inf\.NET CTR Networking 4.0.0.0, but it is not the same!) But I know, that I have installed .NET Framework 4, but I cannot find it! But looking at Windows Update History I find: 1. Microsoft .NET Framework 4 Client Profile for x64 based system (KB982670) 2. Security Update for .NET Framework 4 for x64 based system (KB2160841) (Then I have many updates for .NET Framework 3.5.1 for x64 system!) ritchie58
Ok, so far I have found that the Internet Booster that was free in the last version is now for the Pro version only. Bummer! .NET should be located in the Program Files (x86) so the path would be: C:/Win7 64bit/Program Files (x86)/Microsoft.NET You may have named your C:/ drive differently than mine. ritchie58
I found something else. You had a couple of choices of skins to use with the old free version. They have added more new skins to use but are only for the Pro users. So the free users will have to stick with the default skin now.

Hi Ritchie, Thanks for your reply! A. I have in C:\Program Files(x86)\Microsoft.NET\ 2 subfolders: 1. Primary Interop Assemblies (with 4 .dll files dated 9 Sept. 2010) 2. RedistList (with one file only "Assembly_4_client.xml") B. I have in C:\Windows\Microsoft.NET\Framework\ 7 subfolders: 1. 1053 (with one .chm- file only) 2. v.1.0.3705 (3 files only) 3. v.1.14322 (2 config files only) 4. v.2.0.50727 (with a lot of folders & files) 5. v.3.0 (with 3 folders only) 6. v.3.5 (with a lot of folders & files) 7. v.4.0.30319 (with a lot of folders & files dated 9 Oct 2010) Besides the 7 subfolders, there are stand alone files! Why is not Windows Update cleansing old versions? What a mess! Cheers, sweidre PS. I saw another post of yours, but I am not interasted in more skins. Regarding Internet Booster I have a similar booster in TuneUp Utilities. So I think one booster is enough! I cannot run ASC 3 at startup (online), because many of its moduoles will conflict with other softwares, I think! DS.
sweidre
Hi Ritchie, It's a pity for you, that Internet Booster is not included in ASC 4 Free! (I have my booster in TuneUp Utilities). I have thought it over: I will stay with ASC 3, because that is only one module thereof I need: Sup_DiskCleaner.exe! Toolbox.exe I have already as a standalone freeware. There is another standalone important freeware, that you should download & install: IObit Smart Defrag 2.1 4.5 MB to be downloaded from here: http://www.iobit.com...martdefrag.html This defragger is the only freeware defragger, that defrags all disks at boot-time. At boot-time also these files will be defragged: 1. Pagefile(s) & Hibernation File 2. MFT (Master Field Table) 3. Systemfiles You tick for each disk, which of the items 1-3 you want to have defragged at boot-time. Personally I have made the settings, so that all items for all my drives are defragged at every boot-time. ( It takes only a few seconds extra at startup!) Note, IObit has earlier issued a SmartDefrag 2 without "at boot-time" defrag. (The numbering system by IObit is a little confusing. Maybe this "old" SmartDefrag is still in use!) Maybe SmartDefrag 2 is included in ASC 4, but check, if that deferagger is the version with "at boot-time defrag". I have for years looked for defraggers, that defrag at boot-time, but they are expensive sharewares: O&O Defrag (German) & PerfectDisk (by Rasco, US, Vermont?). I used O&O Defrag long time ago, but I stopped when I had to renew my license. So I advise you to grab IObit SmartDefrag 2.1 from the link above, unless this version is included in ASC 4! ritchie58
I currently use two different defraggers. Puran Defrag 7.3 as my main defragger. It is very through but not real fast and it has a auto defrag feature that I use and a boot time defrag feature. Auslogics Disk Defrag 3.2 I use for a quick defrag of drives, folders, files etc since it's very fast but not as through and it can defrag multiple drives at one time. I'm happy with what I have in that respect. On another note, CNET just threw me another freebee my way today! A free one year activation of Emsisoft's Mamutu. Which acts as a behavior analyzer and blocker. Supposedly better protecting the user against zero day and unknown threats. So says Emsisoft anyway. So far it seems compatible with both Panda and Immunet. However I did put Mamutu's program files in both AV's exclusion list just to be on the safe side. I haven't encountered any performance issues using the added layer of protection so far except for a little more RAM usage which is expected. It has boot-time defrag already?! Fine! Auslogics Defrag I have skipped. I have IObit SmartDefrag 2.1 for at boot-time defrag only! Fast defrag of all my drives I have built in in my TuneUp Utilities. 2. Emsisoft Mamutu Due to a Swedish translation for Emsisoft, I received 2 pieces of one-year licenses of Mamutu. One of the licenses, I gave to my brother in law! But both he & I have uninstalled Mamutu. It found nothing!! It should have been better, if Emsisoft extended my license of Emsisoft AntiMalware instead, of which my license will expire in early September. Emsisoft AntiMalware I both love & hate. ( It gives often false postives, but it has saved me mamy times to visit malicious sites.) 3. Firefox Just now I am sitting in Firefox. I had v. 3.6.16 and searched for updates. To my astonishment I was offered v.3.6.17 and all extensions are OK! Then I searched for updates again, and I was offered v.4.0.1. There was a screen saying, that the following extensions are not valid yet in v.4.0.1: (Note, these are extensions I have, so the list is not complete for others!) 1. Quick Restart (not needed, in fact) 2. FEBE 6.3.3.2 (very important for doing backups of FF) 3. Image Shack Toolbar 5.2.4.8 (not needed just now, but later on for me) 4. Tab Progrees Bar 0.6 (nice to have) 5. G Data Cloud Security 1.011061.1134 (That has been useless for me, so not needed for me at all) 6. Clear Private Data +2.2.3 (very important, when closing FF) 7. Phish Tank Site Checker 0.9.6. (well, it has not reported anything for me, so that one I can skip) 8. Forecastfox Enhanced 0.9.6 (Living in the mountain area, where weather varies, this extension I look at many times a day!) I got two optional buttons "Back" and "OK". I clicked on "Back" and receiveed three buttons "Back" , "No thanks" & " OK". I clicked on "No thanks" and am now updating two extensions of mine. I will now continue with FF 3.6.17 for a while, at least! Cheers, sweidre
