ritchie58
I was a user of Comodo Internet security until about a month ago. The problem started with the system tray update icon. It would inform you of a newer version ready for installation but when I clicked on the update icon nothing happened. This went on for a few weeks. So I manually downloaded the latest 64bit installer and ran that. I got an error message stating that my older version was not compatible. Not compatible? How can that be! After that I went ahead and uninstalled CIS and then ran the installer. Wouldn't you know it I got another error message and the install would not complete. Not knowing what the problem was I contacted support but got no response. However reading other posts at their forum I was certainly not alone at problems trying to update. Since It looked like I wasn't going to get any technical help from Comodo I installed ZoneAlarm firewall instead. A firewall I had used in the past. I really liked Comodo's firewall better since it is feature rich compared to ZA and a much lighter system footprint as well. Just recently I revisited Comodo's forums and some people were stating the problem lied with the registry keys. Ok, I can check that out with regedit.exe I was thinking and proceeded to do so. There was indeed left over remnants in the registry. After that I meticulously went through the registry and deleted any Comodo files/folders I found. Ran the installer after that and it did install with now problems. So if your not afraid to muck about in the registry and you run into this problem that's how I fixed the issue. I really hope Comodo can fix this update problem before the next build is released. I'd hate to have to go through all that again!
duncan
it's awhile back now but I think if you use revo to uninstall and run free registry cleaner, you will get rid of the registry entries that fail the re-install.
ritchie58
You're right there Duncan. If I would have used Revo instead of the built in uninstaller it probably would have saved me some time and effort hunting down those pesky left over registry components. I've used Revo Uninstaller in the past and if I run into that situation trying to update again I'm definitely going to use it.
