ritchie58
I had something weird happen last night! I was sitting here in my room surfing the net when I heard what sounded like a scratching noise coming from the door area of my room. It was slightly ajar to allow some air flow through. When suddenly a freakin' bat flew into my room! It startled the crap out of me because it flew right in front of my face and I kinda panicked and jumped up. I was still holding on to the mouse when I did that and accidentally yanked on the cord pretty good. My optical mouse uses a USB controller and the connector dislodged. I got the bat out of my room and closed my door (I'll deal with the rat with wings today if I can find it and if the cats don't get it first, lol!). Anyway, I knew I had to shut down the PC first before reconnecting the mouse and also for some reason the whole system froze so there was no way to shut the system down except by doing a forced shutdown (I couldn't even get Task Manager to populate), holding the power button till it did shut down worked. So I turned off the power, reconnected the mouse, powered back up and nothing, zilch, nada, just a blank screen! The BIOS wouldn't even boot let alone the operating system! I was thinking then, great, what now (I had one of my back-up hard drives bite the dust the other day)! Thinking it might be a CMOS memory problem, because everything would power up at start-up but the BIOS wouldn't load, I got out the owners manual and found out where the CMOS jumper terminals were located on the motherboard. Shut the power down, unplugged the power cable and used the jumper to clear the CMOS RAM. That did it! After powering back up I was able to reconfigure the BIOS after that. Did a cleaning, defragging and ran a chkdsk as well so it's ok now. STUPID BAT, LOL!!!
