Unable To Install Immunet

Recommended Posts

I'm running XP64. After the download of ImmunetSetup.exe the installation halts and a popup message appears: "Cannot Upgrade XP SP2! Please uninstall the previous version of Immunet 3.0 and retry this installer".

I do not have any versions of Immunet installed. Nothing like that name is listed in Add or Remove Programs.

Hello jalea148, Immunet does require that XP 32bit users have Service Pack 3 installed. Click here to view system requirements necessary to use Immunet. Please read the next post. It will tell you how to receive the necessary Service Packs for your 64bit operating system. On another note, (I know this doesn't apply to you but still a good thing to know) if you do not have Service Pack 3 installed for XP 32bit you will not receive any security updates from Microsoft which is definitely not a good thing.

You can click here for a Microsoft support page detailing how to obtain the latest Service Packs. Since you're using XP 64bit you will need to install the Windows Server 2003 Service Packs. It's all there in the support documentation. I believe that if you install the 64bit version of Windows Server 2003 Service Pack 2 that Immunet should install. Keeping Automatic Updates turned on really is the easiest way to get the necessary Microsoft updates your system requires. If, on the other hand, you already have SP2 installed I would suggest you submit a bug report.

Sorry, but this is a serious bug. There is no Service Pack 3 for Windows Server 2003, and therefore also no Service Pack 3 for Windows XP 64-bit. Service Pack 2 is the latest for these operating systems.

Here's the link from Microsoft: http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/windowsserver/bb463273

"There is no Service Pack 3 for Windows Server 2003, and none is forthcoming."

As a result, I cannot install Immunet on Windows XP 64-bit SP2. Please advise of a workaround, and please fix the installer. Thanks!

You are correct. There is no Service Pack 3 for XP 64bit and according to Immunet's system requirements Windows XP 64bit is not supported. Have you tried installing "Windows Server 2003 SP 1 & 2" to get Immunet to work with this platform? I read Microsoft's support documentation and that lead me to believe that installing the "Server" 2003 Service Packs would allow Immunet to install. However since your OS platform is not supported perhaps I was wrong on that. Since no other thread was posted by jalea148 I just assumed that it had worked for him. More Microsoft support info regarding compatibility issues can be found here.

Thanks for the info. Yes, I did install "Windows Server 2003 SP 1 & 2" -- when using the full Service Pack downloads, the 64-bit versions of those service packs are actually identical for Server 2003 x64 & XP x64.

I saw those system requirements after seeing this thread. Based on the info here, I was hoping it was just an OS detection bug. Too bad that 64-bit Windows XP is not supported at all.

ageorgi, did you try the newest 3.0.6.8523 version of Immunet? One of the new features of this version is support for Windows Server Edition 2003 and since you already have the Server 2003 Service Packs installed, if you haven't tried this version yet, I think it might be worth giving that a shot. BTW it is good you installed those Service Packs as they contain a number of bug and security fixes for your Operating System. Sorry I couldn't be of any better help to you. You could post in the "Ideas" section of the forum to suggest support for your system in a future build. I would recommend doing that. Best wishes, Ritchie...

Thanks for getting back to me! Yes, I downloaded & tried installing the latest version 3.0.6.8523.

It won't work on XP 64-bit, but you're right, it will in fact install on Server 2003 64-bit (with the latest Service Pack for that platform, SP2). That leads me to believe that there is in fact a detection bug in the Immunet 3 installer. Since the code base for XP 64-bit is identical to Server 2003 64-bit, if it installs & works on the latter, it will also work fine on the former. I think it's just a matter of the Immunet installer seeing XP, not realizing it's 64-bit, and therefore asking for SP3 even though SP2 is the latest & up-to-date on that platform. The Immunet installer should treat XP 64-bit like Server 2003 64-bit, and then it should work.

Perhaps it's possible for someone to take a look at that in the future?

I will post that in the Ideas section. Thanks!
