Some of the settings that the user guide says should be on tell me they're off. I click on that setting hoping to see where to turn it on, and there is no other option. Can someone help, please. When the button is in the right position, it has a red color. The text is then showing OFF. When using your cursor, and You move the button from right to left, the color of the button will turn light-blue. The text is then showing ON! Have you the Immunet FREE or PLUS? The PLUS- version has to be paid for (USD 24.95 per year) If you use the FREE version, some of the movable buttons are locked in the right position = OFF. Then there is to the left an orange sign with the word PLUS in the middle. This means, that you have to buy or download a test version of Immunet PLUS to get this function activated. 2.) Two other settings are not using a movable (left<>right) button: 2a.) Protection Exclusions with Add New Exclusion 2b.) Scheduled Scan Please, inform us, if you need help with 2a) & 2b)! Maybe you are able to read our instructions for these two settings! If you encounter problems, a moderator or administrator can remotly do the settings needed for you. Cheers, sweidre PS. As you have problems to read, do you think, it will be better, that we use a bigger font size and/or use bold text? Are you using the latest Immunet version 3.0.4.7241? Immunet FREE or PRO has no firewall! Have you a Firewall? When surfing the Internet you should have a firewall as well! Comodo has a free firewall. The member Ritchie58 is using Comodo free firewall, so for sure he will help you to install it for you! DS PS2. Some browsers have the possiblility to zoom in and zoom out the screen. Are you talking via a microphone, what the software should write down? Without seeing the cursor, how can you browse through all topics of the the forum and instruct the software where the text should be placed? Evidently you can manage it very well, but still I am really amazed! How can you click on the correct button, when you are not able to see it? Scheduling Scans in Immunet - Instructions Maybe you think, that I am too detailed now, but I have to consider your handicap! First you will click on the word Settings on the front window. You will then get a window called Setings with all ON and OFF buttons, that we wrote about before. Scroll down almost the whole page until you will find the expression: Scan Settings. About 2 inches to the right of the end of that expression, there is an arrow pointing downwards. Clicking on that arrow an area 3 inches high will open up below. Search for the expression: Scheduled Scan, and on the line just below is the expression: Add New Scheduled Scan. Click on the expression: Add New Sheduled Scan and under this expression 3 lines will open up. The first line starts with the word: every. Just to the right of the word: every, there is a field with an arrow to the right. Click on that arrow and you will see that the field contains three options vertically from the top: day, week, or month. We start by selecting the word: day. To the right of the word: day, is the word: at. To the right of the word: at, there is a field with an arrow to the right. By clicking on that arrow you will get a long vertical list showing hours: 12, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, and 11. Let us select the hour: 9. Now only the hour: 9, is shown in this field. To the right of the hour: 9, there is a fixed sign: : (colon- sign). To the right of the colon -sign there is a field with a vertical list of four optional numbers of minutes: 00, 15, 30, and 45. All the scheduled scans in the Immunet software will be added to /system32/tasksch.msc in Windows and can be thoroghly changed/edited there, if needed! Antivirus program Microsoft Security Essentials is a freeware developed by Microsoft and many users have been really satisfied with it. Unfortunately, it slows down your computer! Firewall Microsoft Firewall has not been so well accepted by many users. There are other freewares like ZoneAlarm or Comodo, but as far as I understand you are not complaining about Microsoft Firewall. (ZoneAlarm was good before but has desoriented!) Cheers, sweidre PS. How will your program read "- signs? Apostrophe- signs? I tried first apostrophe- signs to highlight words, but maybe special signs will confuse your reading software? DS PS2. I hope, that an Immunet employee will answer this important problem for you! In the old times, only keyboards were used for navigating prior to the invention of the mouse and cursor! My screen reader reads the text that is on screen and there is a voice output. It isn't the same as voice recogninition software. All sounds well on the instructions you have provided. I can't seem to get the scheduled scan to open up, however, I do find that line you're talking about. I'm sure that Security Essentials slows it down. With that, if I do a full scan, it takes upwards of a day to scan. I'm talking about 21 or 22 hours for one scan. I'll keep trying to figure out how to set the scans. As far as highlighting words and my screen reader, it depends on how I have it set. I can have my screen reader tell me whether a font is underlined, italic, etcetra. I generally keep it set on "some punctuation," because otherwise, it would take me forever to get the information I need. You said, that depending on how you set it up, you can be told if a word is underlined, italic etc. Good so far! But let say, that if I underline a word, can the software tell you to move your curser closer & closer to that underlined word, so that you can click on the word, when your curser is right over the word? In that case, I can underline different options, and you can press on any of them to select them for pressing. Because in scheduling of a scan you must all the time select alternatives by pressing on text buttons. For instance, if your computer has many disks, normally only the systemdisk often equal to disk C, should be scanned for malwares rather often. Scanning of your whole computer with all your data files (music etc.) has to be done once a month only. Please, think over if there is any possibility to select an underlined text button and press on it. (When your reader is reading a text on a button, lets say Custom Scan, can you instruct your reader to press on the Custom scan button, before it has already passed by that button? Reading, selecting and pressing a desirable option is the crucial thing, I think! This is essential for scheduled scanning but also for manual scanning. Otherwise, do you have a kind friend, who may setup a few scheduled scan alternatives for you? What to be scanned and when. Then we must solve, how you can remove a malware from the quarantine or restore a so called false positive (equal to clean file). Previously Immunet quarantined many false positives, but the number of false positives have decreased with the latest two versions. It is easier to use arrow keys, but this doesn't seem to work with the product. I can read things that way, but when I hit enter, in some cases, such as scheduling a scan, it doesn't seem to load that link. It is really difficult to use the mouse with a screen reader. Hi Kristy, Myself Prior to the introduction of the personal computer, that came with keyboard and mouse, big computer even if often called mini computer with only keyboard was used! By then computer users learned the keys of the keyboard very well! I used mini computer with keyboard only for a short time only, until the first personal computers from IBM entered the market. I switched immediately to using a personal computer with both keyboard and mouse. I preferred the mouse for the keyboard, so now I use the keyboard for hitting letters, numbers, and a few other like shift-, alt-, and enter keys and maybe some more. I never use the arrowkeys, because I use the mouse most of the time. (Now, I do not know what many keys of the keyboard stand for). You In your case, your mouse is of no use for you. Instead, you must use the keyboard with its all keys only. I think, that you are very good at using your keyboard and hitting the correct keys, even if you cannot read the signs on them. Your screen program I understood from a previous post of yours, that the program is good at reading and hitting tabs of a window, so that you can get to a new page. Does the program hit a tab with a text, that is not underlined? Can the program read other links on a page and hitting them so that you can get to a new page? Even if the links are not underlined? Can the program read text on buttons with the text Back or Next, even if the text is not underlined? Buttons have a link hidden below when hit, leading you to another page. Even some pictures have links hidden beneath by hitting. Maybe the screen program will miss those links, because pictures have no text to read. By the way, it is stupid by me to put questions about your screen program. On this thread, you have given the name of the program of Jaws type. I will devote some time of this weekend to seach for your program on the Internet. Hopefully, I will get some hits, so I can get more details of your program. What can it do and what can it not do! If it cannot read hidden links, there are programs in the market showing all links hidden on a page. One problem is there, that links are written as strings with proper words to read but also with strange signs. I think, that our exercise with scheduled scans in Immunet is one of the worst cases! Product? Above you wrote: It is easier to use arrow keys, but this doesn't seem to work with the product. What to you mean by the word Product here? Do you mean your screen software product or the Immunet Protect product? Here I will add, that Immunet software seems to accept mouse cursor only, not keys on the keyboard, at least in some cases! More concerning this below! Deep Scan or Email Scan The texts: Deep Scan and Email Scan are shaded, because they belong only to Immunet PLUS. There is an orange patch containing the word PLUS. In the FREE version they are always OFF, that it is not functioning. I have the same fresh FREE version of Immunet as you have, but if I hover my mouse cursor right above the question mark in the right end of the two lines, I get two boxes poppin up with explanatory texts. Note, I have to use my cursor to hover above the question marks. My arrow keys on my keyboard do not respond to moving to the question marks! Archive file scan Scan Archive Files and on the next line Scan Packed Files are both set as OFF as default. But by moving the two reglages from the right to the left using the mouse, they will move to the left, turning light-blue and the text turns into ON. Note, the reglage will move to the right or left side by just hitting it by the mouse cursor! Dragging is not needed! By hitting it, it will toggle from the right to the left side, or vice versa. It is toggling! I had to use the cursor of the mouse for doing this. My arrow keys or enter key on my keyboard cannot do this! In their manuals there are often listed what keys of the keyboard are available.Many young Internet surfer prefer keys on the keyboard, becaue they are faster than usage of the mouse. In your case you should go for only programs, that to 100 percent can be keyborad handled! Based upon your experience of trying to use keyboard for Immunet, I will one day post in Immunet forum the necessity to make an Immunet edition for blind users. One day I will on Internet as well search for necessary programs for blind users. Some security programs like AntiVirus programs and Firewall are a must have when using connection to the Internet. Are you member in any organisation for blind people, so you can get advice from this orgaisation or its member?. I will not recommend Facebook by security reason, but any social site formed as a private club where blind users might exchange information and help each other could be useful for you. I write with intention social private club for blind users only, because a private club will not be misused by spamers or hackers. It is unlikely that members with a common handicap will act in a criminal way. Some not-blind members shall be allowed to join the club by invitation and approval by the other members. I figured that would help. I though I might still have some protection from Immunet. As far as my screen reader goes, it doesn't matter whether the words are underlined or not. The screen reader does have settings for toggling the details of various fonts. It would be helpful if you would go into a forum and suggest more screen reader friendly functions of the Immunet product. By then computer users learned the keys of the keyboard very well! I used mini computer with keyboard only for a short time only, until the first personal computers from IBM entered the market. I switched immediately to using a personal computer with both keyboard and mouse. I preferred the mouse for the keyboard, so now I use the keyboard for hitting letters, numbers, and a few other like shift-, alt-, and enter keys and maybe some more. I never use the arrowkeys, because I use the mouse most of the time. (Now, I do not know what many keys of the keyboard stand for). You In your case, your mouse is of no use for you. Instead, you must use the keyboard with its all keys only. I think, that you are very good at using your keyboard and hitting the correct keys, even if you cannot read the signs on them. Your screen program I understood from a previous post of yours, that the program is good at reading and hitting tabs of a window, so that you can get to a new page. Does the program hit a tab with a text, that is not underlined? Can the program read other links on a page and hitting them so that you can get to a new page? Even if the links are not underlined? Can the program read text on buttons with the text Back or Next, even if the text is not underlined? Buttons have a link hidden below when hit, leading you to another page. Even some pictures have links hidden beneath by hitting. Maybe the screen program will miss those links, because pictures have no text to read. By the way, it is stupid by me to put questions about your screen program. On this thread, you have given the name of the program of Jaws type. I will devote some time of this weekend to seach for your program on the Internet. Hopefully, I will get some hits, so I can get more details of your program. What can it do and what can it not do! If it cannot read hidden links, there are programs in the market showing all links hidden on a page. One problem is there, that links are written as strings with proper words to read but also with strange signs. I think, that our exercise with scheduled scans in Immunet is one of the worst cases! More concerning this below! Deep Scan or Email Scan The texts: Deep Scan and Email Scan are shaded, because they belong only to Immunet PLUS. There is an orange patch containing the word PLUS. In the FREE version they are always OFF, that it is not functioning. I have the same fresh FREE version of Immunet as you have, but if I hover my mouse cursor right above the question mark in the right end of the two lines, I get two boxes poppin up with explanatory texts. Note, I have to use my cursor to hover above the question marks. My arrow keys on my keyboard do not respond to moving to the question marks! Archive file scan Scan Archive Files and on the next line Scan Packed Files are both set as OFF as default. But by moving the two reglages from the right to the left using the mouse, they will move to the left, turning light-blue and the text turns into ON. Note, the reglage will move to the right or left side by just hitting it by the mouse cursor! Dragging is not needed! By hitting it, it will toggle from the right to the left side, or vice versa. It is toggling! I had to use the cursor of the mouse for doing this. My arrow keys or enter key on my keyboard cannot do this! So I have been sleeping all night and first now I opened my computer and found this message of yours. It is good, that you put Security Essentials back into force. I hope, that you can handle it completely using your keyboard. Earlier, it was said, that the pure cloud-based Immunet FREE could work together with any other antivirus software. Just a few days ago, two Immunet users reported problem to have it installed togethet with Security Essentials. (Maybe they had the PLUS version of Immunet, that in addition to the cloud based database of signatures also has the TETRA module with a computer based database of signatures? If you face problems to have Immunet FREE installed together with Security Essentials, inform us un the forum, then the two antivirus softwares must put the essential files of Immunet iptray.exe & agent.exe in the exclusion list of Security Essentials and vice versa. I looked into Immunet briefly, and found that settings there cannot be handled at all with the keyboard, but need a mouse to be managed. For sure, I must put in the forum a post about the must to make Immunet more useful for blind users to make Immunet keyboard driven as well. Will a keyboard driven Immunet be the only must to get your screen reader working? Regarding hidden links under pictures and buttons, they can appear as readable by using some sprecial softwares. The problems with those software are though, that they show too links to pages on many levels beneath. I think, that then your screen reader will get mad, with all information cunfusing you as well. I will now put a post about making Immunet more useful for blind users! There is another good freeware called Malwareytes´ Anti-Malware that is very useful for scanning. First I would like to say you are a testament to the human spirit! Being able to overcome great adversity, you are an inspiration to us all! That said, your question about which firewall to use? Most experts agree the Windows XP Firewall is adequate for the average home user. Although it's not without it's shortcomings. For instance, by default, Windows XP Firewall allows all outbound traffic unless you create a custom rule for that particular process accessing the internet which can be a daunting task for some that are not technically savvy. That's why I use a third party firewall instead of Microsoft's offering. Comodo's firewall will give you a bit of a security advantage, much more easily customizable outbound rule creation and is more informative but that's more of a personal preference than anything. Might I suggest you stick with the Windows Firewall because I don't know how blind friendly Comodo's firewall would be to you. With Windows Firewall It usually runs silently in the background and you really don't have to worry about changing any settings. Where as with Comodo there are numerous tweaks and settings one can adjust and you would receive many more security pop-ups requiring your allow or deny decision. I would hate for you to go through the same experience you had with Immunet. However if you are adamant about giving Comodo Internet Security a try, I would be happy to assist you in any way I can. Also, if you do run into trouble with Microsoft Security Essentials there are other great free anti-virus packages that are compatible with Immunet. Such as Avira Antivir Antivirus. I feel, that I must know more of your screen reader software, in order to find proper softwares, that you can use with ease. Using Google I first searched for NVDA, but these letters stand for many different uninteresting things. Instead I searched for both words "NVDA Jaws" and received many hits. My hits gave me the information, that Jaws and NVDA are two separate products. Then there is a third one called VoiceOver for Apple, iPhones ans iPod. Then, there are sites comparing all three products (it seems, that regarding all three softwares image links are missing.) Then there are some sites comparing NVDA and Jaws. Have you got a combination of both of them? JAWS with some features of NVDA? There was a histogram showing all three softwares: JAWS is most frequently used, then NVDA comes on the second place. On the third & last place VoiceOver comes. That was expected, because Apple users are not so many as Microsoft Windows has. I found Jaws 12 working on the web-browser Internet Explorer 8 and NVDA 2011.1 on the web-browser Firefox 4. Can you give more detailed information about your softwaremix? Many users liked it and some users not! But it has antivirus, antipyware, and rootkit protection. Definition file and real time defenses. Scan types: Quick, Full, & Custom scan. A sign turns green when your computer is OK, but of course you and your screen reader cannot see colors! One user commented, that the software slows down the computer. Another user commented, that the scan speed can be adjusted. (I saw that there is a limit of CPU usage during scan by choosing every 10% from 10% up to 100%. If your computer is idle, you can probably boost the scan speed by selecting a higher percentage of CPU usage during scan). Otherwise select 10 or 20 percent. It lacks a boot time scanning for removing viruses. The essential question I have now is: Can you change all settings by using your crucial keyboard only? For example: finding and hitting the correct tab, ticking correct option box or circle. I do not know how many disks you have, but as I said before the systemdisk C with operating system and programs is vulnarable for malwares and should therefore be more often scanned! Can you when using Custom Scan with your keyboard find and choose (tick) the C- disk for scanning. Otherwise, there are many other good free anti-virus softwares in the market. You must have realized, that something went wrong here, because you avoided evidently to reply to my last post called Microsoft Security Essentials! Maybe, the reason for this was that I added two postscripts PS at the bottom of that very post.They must have confused you or your screen reader. So on this thread we can say, that my last two posts have not been replied to by you. You cannot see that, but at the bottom left of a post put there by you there is a button called Edit. By hitting that the author only can edit that very post by adding postscripts, changing spelling errors or whatever. In the future, I will add postscripts but I will place them above my final words Cheers sweidre to avoid confusion. For your information there is another button to the right of the button Edit called Delete. By pressing on the button Delete the whole post can be deleted.These two buttons Edit and Delete are only visible on a post by the poster. That means, that only the poster can edit and delete the post, not any other. In addition to the author also an Immunet moderator or administrator can edit and delete a post. Some posts must be deleted by them, because many spammers are entering posts with forbidden contents for example advertising or porn. This makes sense. I wrote, that there is a Delete button in the bottom of the post you have created yourself. No, it does not exist. But an Edit button is there just to the left of the Reply button. Then I can click on the Edit button to edit what I have written and write something like this: Sorry! This post should be deleted! When I have submitted my post, I can in the bottom left of the post locate and hit the button Report. Then a small window will open, where I can write "Please, erase this post added by mistake!" After clicking on submit button the message will be sent to moderators or aministrators, who will delete the post, when they have time. Note, that the Report button is available on all posts, so anyone can report a post for deletion for some reason. This is often used if a post, that contains forbidden contents, so the post will be deleted and the poster will be maybe banned. Here are six further comments about the forum: 1. The keyboard does not work for locating of the buttons in the bottom of the post for example Report, Edit, and Reply buttons. How you find and hit the Reply button, I do not know. 2. Then you use your mouse and click on the left button thereof to have the cursor placed anywhere on the post area. Then I guess, that you hit PagUp key on your keyboard to have the cursor placed in the top left corner of the message. And there you write your message. Moving the existing text forward in some way, so that your reply is placed before the question from the previous poster. It works fine, but the messages are coming in the wrong order. I tested, that by first placing the cursor in the top-right corner by clicking on the PageUp key, then I can press the PageDown key, and the currsor will then jump to the beginning of the empty second line below the text by the previous poster. By doing so, the messages will be placed in a more logical order. For us it does not matter, but it must be a bit annoying for you to have your screen reader reading the texts in the opposite order. 3. Then there is another annoying problem for you, I can imagine. As the text from the previous post is copied into your reply box as well, the same text will be read twice. If you let the screen reader to read from the top of the thread to the bottom this will take double the time. I understand, that if there are many participants on the thread, you want to have your answer just in the connection with the question. 4. If you will write something new, that is not related to a particular post but belongs to this thread, you can add a post with your message only. Then you must scroll to the bottom of the thread, where I asume you have the last post. Instead of hitting the button Reply as you are used to, try with your cursor to move it from the button Reply almost downwards 3 inches somethat to the left (direction 7 to talk clock-language) and there you will find a button called Add Reply. By hitting this key you get an empty window without anyn text from others, where you can write your message Hi sweidre, I refer to what you said about ... and so on. When you submit the post it will be placed in the bottom with your own message only. 5. Do you want me to edit any long and useless posts of mine for example my attempt to teach you how to create a scheuled scan. This post I can copy to a text file and have it stored somewhere in my computer, if we need it later on. I can not delete the post but edit it to a short sentence only and then write a Report to have it deleted by a moderator or administator. I cannot edit any of your posts containing copies of my long and useless messages. Next step is to remove my long messages included in your posts (I think, that a mouse is needed for that.) 6.
