sweidre
Hi, Immunet should consider completely blind users, as well! Magnifying glass or a zooming in feature do not help at all for a completely blind user! There is a screen reading tool available for reading text written on the screen and by using a voice informing the user. The main problem for the completely blind user is that the mouse is completely useless. A blind user can very well handle a keyboard, even if the signs on the keys are not visible. A blind user has learnt where all keys are located without seeing their signs. To manage all windows of Immunet and hit the correct option for setting, the arrow keys and the enter key of the keyboard must be activated for Immunet! I have gone through Immunet FREE and nowhere the navigation arrow keys of the keyboard can be used! I suggest, that all versions of Immunet should not be only mouse driven but also keyboard driven! Please, employees of Immunet, develop Immunet so that the keyboard can be fully used. This is useful and necessary for all blind users of the FREE and the PLUS versions ( and also in the coming ENTERPRISE version, now in the pipeline ). Prior to the development of the mouse only keyboards were used. Still a keyboard is the main tool for managing computers, but not in the present version of Immunet. Please, inform, if Immunet will consider to have their products keyboard driven as a 100 percent alternative to the mouse. Has any employee or member of Immunet forum an other idea how to help a blind user, please, post it here on this thread or on the following thread, that should be read: "Changing Settings. How to change settings/open menus to do so using the keyboard" http://forum.immunet...nging-settings/ Cheers, sweidre
ritchie58
This is one of the best ideas I've heard for the Immunet staff to look into and hopefully implement. Being able to use keyboard hot-keys for all GUI settings would be a great help for the visually challenged like fellow forum and Immunet user Kristy. Thanks to Kristy's experience with Immunet she shed some light on a topic that, in my opinion, has been overlooked and needs to be addressed. Sweidre, you obviously spent some time helping that lady! Way to go!
sweidre
Hi, I have briefly looked into my own shareware "ESET Smart Security 4", that contains a firewall & antivirus (and an almost useless antiSPAM function). With a button called "default", the "default" settings of the software are ready to use for a blind user. (Only username & password must be entered once - it is a pretty expensive shareware). I looked into some parts using my keyboard only. Arrow keys and enter key worked perfectly until I should setup a Custom Scan using a tree structure of my computer. Arrow keys worked fine to navigate in all directions and the enter key worked fine, but I found some limitations. The navigation arrow keys could not get to the + plus sign for expanding the tree into branches and subbranches, that are directories and subdirectories. To the left of all braches is a box to tick for select for scanning. This box could not be gotten to for highlighting and the enter key was not working for placing a tick in the box by using the keyboard. (I had to use the mouse for these things). When you navigate to an item (option) with an arrow key, the item will be highlighted and by pressing the F1 key you will get a help window showing this item only with an explanatory text. I assume, that the software screen reader with a voice output will read the text of this popup window as well for the user. So ESET is pretty good for a blind user, but probably with more limitations, than I have found. Please, list on this thread all known softwares, that are keyboard driven for blind users. First security softwares like firewall, antivirus- and other anti-malware softwares and then other softwares of any kind. Softwares, that are only mouse driven (not keyboard driven) are useless for completely blind users! When listing the sofwares, that are keyboard driven, please, note, the limitatios thereof, where a mouse is needed. Maybe the blind user can get around these problems, because maybe the screen reader have functions, that I do not know of. (I am via Google looking for any manual of the software NVDA Jawn, that Kristy is using. Until now, I have not gotten any good hits, only legal and other useless things.) sweidre
Hi, I have found an interesting article on itworld.com about a guy trying to handle his computer using the keyboard only (no mouse) during 7 days. He faced some problems and had to use his mouse sometimes. Especially Flash pages can only be handled by using the mouse. There were also interesting comments beneath the article confirming, that Flash must be handled with a mouse. It appeared from the comments that a user, more experienced in using the keyboard, can handle everything via the keyboard, with the exception for Flash. (But nobody had tested Immunet using the keyboard only, he he! No way!) "7 days using only keyboard shortcuts: No mouse, no trackpad, no problem?" The link to the website is here: http://www.itworld.c...kpad-no-problem Here is one more interesting comment to the article: "My mother is blind and uses a computer with a screen reader, she uses all short cut keys and tabs to navigate, but there are some web pages where the cursor just won't go where she needs it to even after tabbing lots and lots of time. The tool where the arrow keys acts like a mouse works, but its also very time consuming to navigate when you cannot see where its going. Its not like I can just tell her move it an inch to the right. If software and web pages allowed better keyboard navigation that would be great. Thanks to someone for trying this out!" Cheers, sweidre

Kristygirl2011
Steven, Sweidre, Richy58, thanks for all the help. It's good that the suggestion has been passed along, and I thank you. Other blind and visually-impaired persons who may come upon your product and at least give it a try would greatly appreciate accessibility in the aspects of navigating and selecting options for the Immunet Protect products. Cheers. I have passed the suggestion along to the to the leadership. Best I can do at this time due to 99% of team resources are going to finishing the Enterprise product.
