Immunet Is Compatible Avg Intenert Security 2012 ?

Recommended Posts

Hello manowar-kill, Immunet Protect Free Edition is compatible with AVG. If you have the Plus (paid) version of Immunet I wouldn't see the need to have both AV's as Immunet Plus would give you adequate protection on it's own. I used AVG a few years ago and I remember that you had to install a separate anti-rootkit scanner that wasn't included in AVG's install package. So if AVG's newest version doesn't include anti-rootkit scanning and you're using both free versions might I suggest you download and install a dedicated 3rd party anti-rootkit scanner as Immunet Free does not include anti-rootkit detection either. This is handled by the Tetra Engine which is only available to paying customers.

Ok, I did a little browsing on the web. Apparently AVG 2012 does have root-kit detection capabilities. Here is what AVG says: Rootkits

We have significantly improved anti-rootkit module detection capabilities in AVG 2012 products. Please check these FAQ articles in case you would like to know more about rootkits and their removal:

What is rootkit?

How to deal with rootkits?

Modern rootkits overwriting the Master Boot Record (MBR) may sometimes prevent the MBR sector from being fixed when the operating system is running (and the rootkit itself is active). In such case, the MBR needs to be overwritten with the host operating system offline. This can be done by the Windows recovery console.

Rewriting the MBR improperly may prevent the operating system from booting. We recommend performing this operation only if you are absolutely sure or if asked to do so by AVG technical support (detailed information will be provided in such case). More information about rewriting the MBR sector can be found in this AVG Forum article. After fixing the MBR sector, we strongly recommend running a full computer scan using updated AVG to remove possible infection remnants.

Please do not hesitate contacting AVG technical support in case an infection cannot be removed or is repeatedly coming back after its removal.

Immunet Free and your version of AVG should work together. You might want to put Immunet's program files folder into AVG's "Exclusion List" just to be on the safe side. By default AVG's necessary files are already in Immunet's Exclusion List if you haven't removed those exclusions. Also make sure AVG or no other security software, such as your firewall, blocks Immunet's two running processes, iptray.exe and agent.exe. Are you using the ClamAV module enabled as well? freshclam.exe will run briefly on occasion to update the ClamAV engine.
