I've seen in the comparison page of Free vs Plus that Free version has no offline protection, which leads me into thinking that Clam is cloud (much better if it's really cloud) rather than local. That is, definition signatures are downloaded and stored on your hard drive. This way you do indeed have off-line scanning capabilities if you have the ClamAV module enabled. ClamAV is included in both the Free and Plus versions. The ETHOS and SPERO engines are cloud based and require an internet connection. The Plus users also get the TETRA module, which is based on BitDefender's detection engine which is able to detect complex threats such as root-kits, and this engine also stores signatures for off-line scanning as well.
