Is The Update Now Feature Working?

Recommended Posts

I'm glad that the latest version took care of the problem with the scan section saying not secure "fix it" after running a scan. Thank you very much for that! My question would be does the update now feature in the GUI function for users of the free version? I regularly check using the feature. I had to manually download the latest installer package and install. The only way I knew there was a newer version available was checking out the forums here. Here's an idea or two. Ask users if they would want to be informed via email when any new versions become available or have a little pop up window in the GUI or system tray icon saying newer version available. Something along those lines perhaps.

There are two reasons you may not have a new version prompted during update now. We either screwed up the upgrade path so we couldn't push it through Update now like we did with 2.0.11 to 2.0.14, or we have a bug that is only affecting a few users like the History Summary page bug fix between 2.0.14.91 and 2.0.14.99. The first is pretty obvious, we need to fix mistakes like that but we had some enhancements in 2.0.14 that we needed released based on promises for partners, language preparedness, and we didn't have the time to fix the upgrade. The second one, the upgrade 2.0.14.91 to 2.0.14.99, is actually a feature we're missing in the current upgrades. We can do major upgrades (2.0.11 to 2.0.14), but cannot do minor upgrades that fix a single dll which we needed in this case. This is on the todo list, I just don't have a date dedicated to it yet.

I'm going to be looking at the RSS feeds we have in the product to see if I can easily announce the updates there. If I can, there is a special flag where I can notify the user on the tray.

@Millard

Can u please post back here when the update feature works?

I also would like to know if it will update all version 2 installs when it becomes functional?

Woodrow,

I'll be out next week, but Al is supposed to push the update through the product for 2.0 users while I'm away. You should be notified that 2.0.15 is available and then will be able to update to the latest.

Today Immunet informed me of an update and it began to download, after about 15 sec it froze and hangs. I did close and try to restart but then Immunet cant connect to your servers.

Rebooted and all works well until trying to update again. Tried this 4 times now with the same results.

If I have the time I will try this on some more computers today and report back.

I realize that this post could be in the wrong place, but I wanted to continue the thread. Move it, if u guys like.

Waited a couple of hours and now the update works, download server overload?

I think it was server overload. I am checking the logs now. Essentially it asked several hundred thousand clients to upgrade and it hammered our servers. We will have to expand them for the next release. Thanks Woodrow.

Growing pains are a good thing. Means Immunet is trending in the right direction.
