Iptray Not Visible, Gui Not Visible

Recommended Posts

Hello, I installed immunet free and the icon never appeared in the tray. I checked the process list and it shows that iptray.exe and agent.exe are running.

I made a file with the icar virus string (http://www.eicar.org/86-0-Intended-use.html) and the file was removed, but without any immunet pop up like I was used to on other computers.

So it seems like immunet is running and doing its job, but no tray icon or gui available.

I did not have any other virus/malware running when I first installed. I subsequently installed microsoft security essentials. The interesting thing about that is that it does not show up in the tray, but I can get the gui upon invokation.

I installed immunet. Then uninstalled it. Then I ran stinger, malwarebytes.and microsoft security essentials and the system shows clean.

I then reinstalled immunet with the same results.

I am using version 3.0.20 free

I am using XP SP3

Could you add exclusions to MSE for Immunet's processes agent.exe and iptray.exe? To add exclusions, click on Settings > Excluded files & locations, then click the Add button to add an entry. This may be the cause of the problem your seeing. It wouldn't be a bad idea to also add an exclusion for MSE's Program Files folder into Immunet's Exclusion List as well.

Also check your firewall. Manually add exception/exclusion rules for both processes to your firewall if they're not already present so that these processes have unrestricted internet access too.

I found the problem, Intel Desktop Utilities has a process called iptray.exe. I terminated the iptray.exe process and the intel tray icon dissappeared, I was then able to start immunets iptray.exe. Might be good info if anyone else has the problem. I really wan't looking forward to wiping this machine due to the problem

C:\Program Files\Intel\Intel Desktop Utilities\ipTray.exe

See you,

Jay

Well that's good to know. The Intel software has a process with the same name, go figure! Glad things worked out for you but it still would be a good idea to add those exclusions to Immunet, MSE and your firewall just to avoid a possible future conflicts.
