Plus User:

IP seems to be up and running: both processes are running-agent & iptray.

From the gui I can see my community and get updates (definition updates retrieved )

The ‘button’ under community heading shows red and indicates disconnected.

I know that IP is not communicating properly as I have enabled Verbose Tray Notifications and am getting none.

After some time, maybe min’s-maybe an hour or so, I will get the ‘popup tray notification’ Immunet Online. And all is fine after.

What is causing the delay in IP going on-line? And why can I download updates but obviously am not connected to the cloud av?

This is recent behavior, seemingly began around the last re-install.

Hi Dave, glad to hear from ya again! Been a while since we last chatted.

 

Before doing anything else it would be great if you could send an SDT report to Support first.

 

I think what you're seeing is what some other users have reported recently. That one or more .db files may have become corrupted. I encountered this problem myself a few months back. Although attempts were made to secure these files from access by other applications sometimes other programs can access and thus corrupt these files. I'm sure Development is looking into ways to better protect these necessary files but in the mean time a complete uninstall and reinstall will usually correct this. Choose "NO" when the uninstaller asks if you're going to reinstall IMP again. Then reconfigure your settings, exclusions & reenter your license key.

 

That should work but let us know if you continue to have any issues after a reinstall.

Seems to have cleared up over the weekend, at least I’m going ‘live’ fairly quickly now.

… not sure if It’s automatically checking for daily definition file updates though, as I have been manually asking for, and getting those updates.

I’ll send a report along as I have time later in the week.

I haven’t encountered any multiple AV program problems previously- been running IP w/everything on except Clam, MS Security Essentials, and Norton 360 (Norton runs the firewall) for a few years now.

 

In MS Security Essentials I have excluded (C:\program files\immunet )from their scans. Are there additional locations I should exclude which contain relevant IP info?

I’ve excluded processes- agent.exe & iptray.exe from them as well.

Norton 360 has no ability to make exclusions (that I’m aware of) but has never seemed to be a problem (except when they beat IP to the quarantine and we try to quarantine their files=lol…(or vice versa)

If it stays glitchy I’ll un/re-install again, and send over a file first (if I can remember where to generate it from :-/ )

If you have Immunet's Program Files folder excluded that should also exclude the files in question since they're located in that same folder. To be honest with you though you really don't need to run MSE at all if you're using Immunet Plus. Plus was designed to be a stand alone AV (TETRA enabled) and problems can arise if it's used with another AV product. So maybe it is a conflict issue instead of corrupted files. Perhaps you might consider using just Immunet instead. You could always reinstall MSE again if you ever revert to the Immunet Free version, right?

 

This Norton Support info is a couple of years old so I don't know if it's still valid for Norton's newset offering but here are the instructions for manually adding custom rules to the 360 firewall. See if you can add exceptions for Immunet's processes to see if that helps at all too if the instructions still apply of course.

 

 

 

To add a Program rule


  1. In the Norton Internet Security main window, click Settings.
     

  2. In the Settings window, click the Network tab.
     

  3. In the left pane, click Smart Firewall.
     

  4. Under Smart Firewall, in the Program Control row, click Configure.
     

  5. In the Program Control window, in the Program column, select the program to which you want to add a rule.
     

  6. Click Modify.
    You can also use the Access drop-down list next to the program to modify the access level for the program. Accordingly, Smart Firewall modifies or creates the relevant rule for the program.
     

  7. In the Rules window, click Add.
     

  8. Follow the instructions in the Add Rule wizard.
     

  9. In the Rules window, click OK.
     

  10. In the Program Control window, click OK.

Thanks Jose, and Thanks Ritchie. I'll try running through that rule set up beginning of the week (I've been chicken to mess with the firewall rules)

 

I did notice Norton has Immunet listed as a trusted program, and both processes as well, it reports the processes are excluded from scans but they only list the processes specifically and not the folder- I assume it is all of the \program files\immunet- but cannot verify that. And it's vague and says nothing re: the firewall.

 

I know MS isn't much, what's funny is they have beaten the other two on a few quarantines, go figure..... My smaller machine is only an i3 with 4 gig so I know I take a hit on speed ..but I feel safe

tonite it did take a few min's to go online again, so I may just reinstall - do you still think I should forward a report before reinstall- and remind me which sub- folder it's in and it's name..is it an .exe???

ps. I have a 3.0.6 and 3.0.12 sub folder, are both needed now? on a clean uninstall ('no' to reinstall question) does the entire Immunet program file get deleted?

Hello Dave, yeah, that would be great if you can use the Support Diagnostic Tool before you reinstall. To create a SDT 7zip file to your Desktop for submission to Support go to Start > All Programs > scroll down to the Immunet 3.0 folder and click on that > click on Support Diagnostic Tool. That will create the 7zip file. Info on how to submit a SDT report can also be found at this FAQ topic. http://forum.immunet...ic-tool-report/

 

When you click NO that deletes all your history files including your quarantine history, history logs, settings, exclusions, etc...A clean sweep. The Immunet Program Files folder for the version you uninstalled will remain in your directory but it should be empty.

 

You will, no doubt, see several sub-folders of different versions that you have previously used in the Program Files folder. These are kept for Support reasons just in case. However it is safe to delete the older ones if you want to. I had sub-folders dating back to the old 2.0 version which I have deleted. It is good to keep the last couple of older versions just in case that data is needed for Support/debugging purposes. This situation seemed to have resolved itself shortly after the discussion. Immunet is connecting within the first few moments of start up now, and seems to be checking itself in.

 

(a little off the subject...)

Shouldn't it be automatically downloading updates? Specifically, when I manually click update it goes through 3: version, definitions(a?), and definitions(daily) and usually retrieves quite a few depending on time since I last requested; should IP automatically be downloading these? Are these for TETRA offline files?

If that question has an answer already in the forums please point me there.

Hi Dave, the answer to that is yes. Immunet will automatically update the defs if you have enabled "Allow Defination Updates" in Settings for the TETRA module even if you don't click on the Update Now button. There is a short time interval between when Immunet is funished launching and when the definations are downloaded and installed. Regarding your other inquiry, these defs are also used for "off-line" scanning. If you click on the Update Now button before Immunet has a chance to pull the definations down automatically then it will manually update as you instructed. That's perfectly normal.

 

What I like to do is: at bootup, as soon as all my startup programs are finished loading I launch the GUI and manually update. That way I'm assured that I have the latest defs already installed before I do anything else with my computer. I still keep the auto update feature on though just in case some new defs are pushed to me while online. Perhaps an old remaining habit from when all AV's where still signature based, the good ol' days, lol!
