Immunet Detections Not Showing Up In Log

Hi, I have been getting a periodic alert and quarantine notification from Immunet via the tray. The threat is described as Clam.Adware.Gamevance-256

Screenshot is attached.

I am also running Microsoft Security Essentials which is not alerting. MBAM free is also not alerting. Stinger has not found any problem.

When I open the Immunet GUI, the history is blank, as is the list of quarantined items. In short, there is no log information when I open Immunet regarding this notification.

I am not having any browser trouble (toolbars, hijacks etc).

Immunet Version:

3.1.8.9538

Can someone help by explaining what I am seeing?

Jay

Hi Jay, Immunet's log files are designed by default to be automatically reset after a time. This keeps the log files from getting too large and taking up excessive HDD space. It's possible the log files were reset shortly after you recieved the last detection. Also since that file is a temporary file that could be the reason for no listing in Quarantine. The file no longer exists. If that detection happens again see if it is listed in Quarantine. If so, post the complete file path for the detection, if at all possible, and we can take a look to see if it's genuine malware or perhaps a False Positive from the ClamAV engine.

Another remote possibility might be that your history files have become corrupted. This happens on very rare occasions when another program attempts to access these files. Uusally a uninstall and reinstall will correct this.

If Immunet seems to be functioning properly aside from the log files I would say wait and see if you get another detection before doing a uninstall/reinstall. If you get no listings in the History files within a day or two of normal PC use a reinstall would be the next course of action. It would be great if you need to do an uninstall to send Support via email a SDT report before you start the uninstall. (info on how to send a SDT report can be found in the forum FAQ section). Let us know if you have any other questions or continue to have issues.

Best wishes, Ritchie...

Thank you for the reply. I have had several of these alerts with no mention in the log.

Based on what you said, I remember now that I did have an alert on a temporary file about a month ago, and I used the program eraser to flag it for deletion on the next restart (since it would not delete directly).

Sounds like you recommend a reinstall at this point?

Hi Jay, yes it does sound like your history files are corrupted. Try and do a complete uninstall. When asked by the uninstaller if you plan to reinstall Immunet again select "NO" and complete the remainder of the uninstall process. This will delete all exsisting history files. You can get the most recent bootstrapper installer here. http://download.immunet.com/push/immunet/ImmunetSetup.exe Reinstall Immunet. If at all possible select the English language version so you get the most recent build and after installation reconfigure your Settings, Scheduled Scan, Scan Options, Exclusions, etc...

Before you do uninstall could you please send in that SDT report to Support first? http://forum.immunet.com/index.php?/topic/1672-how-do-i-submit-a-support-diagnostic-tool-report/

The I ran "ipsupport tool" which created this file which is quite large (152mb)

Immunet_Support_Tool_2014_04_29_13_25_04.7z

I think the support directions regarding the tool should give the file name of the tool and better directions as how to get to it. My immunet folder had several versioned subfolders and I could not be sure I was clicking on the right executable to generate the report.

Thanks for the help, is that file supposed to be that big?

Wow! I've never heard of a support dump being that large before! That's maybe some cause for concern!

The easiest way to create a SDT report is by going to Start > All Programs > click on the Immunet 3.0 folder > click on the Support Diagnostic Tool. Try creating a new support dump by this means to see if it's that large again if you haven't already uninstalled.

Yes, if you have used older versions of Immunet you will see sub-folders for these builds. These are left over for support/debugging purposes. They can, however, be deleted if you so desire. Here's some info on this topic. http://forum.immunet...ld-sub-folders/

Have you uninstalled & reinstalled Immunet yet?
