Allow Immunet To Run Alongside Windows 8+'s Defender

You can use Immunet with Microsoft's old Defender antispyware program. However for better protection, and given the choice, I would download and install Microsoft Security Essentials instead of using Defender. Microsoft made some improvements to MSE to make it better at detecting a much wider range of malware than just Defender and it's still free. Just exclude each other's Program Files folders to avoid any possible future conflicts and you should be good to go! My personal AV combo is Panda Cloud Antivirus Pro & Immunet Free.

As far as Windows 8 or 8.1, some Immunet users have reported conflicts with these Operating Systems while other folks seem to use these platforms and Immunet with no problems at all.

yes, on Windows 8+ if you have an Enterprise license for Endpoint Security (Security Essentials with a different name) installed you can run it and Immunet. But Windows 8's built in Defender (which is Security Essentials with a different name) will shut itself off when it thinks another antivirus program is installed. So Immunet runs fine on 8 but you can't get both to run and i don't think Immunet has the backend scanner like the 'Pro' used to (or that FireAmp does). I tried modifying the registry to ignore but as soon as it 'refreshes' and sees Immunet running it shuts off the built-in Defender.

Yes! You're absolutly right there and I had "completely forgot" about that! If another AV product is installed with Windows 8 it "automatically" disables Defender which under normal circumstances wouldn't be a bad thing as you normally don't want to run two AV's together. It can drastically bog down your computer and also cause unusual/unexpecteded behavior. That's where Immunet Free is different. It can be used as a companion AV (using a compatable AV to Immunet) with minimal loss to system resourses to give you a stable added layer of protection. I also have the ClamAV module enabled in Settings besides using Panda Cloud.

I figure this is probably going to fall under the 'that is up to microsoft' but it really sucks that you cannot run Defender and Immunet at the same time. However if someone has a work around for that i would love to hear it!

I run both on win10 with no probs, I call it defender or MSE, it's been great never a bug or problem.

I thought I would put immunet as a 2nd layer just in case...try downing  MSE again and running and then putting  immunet on. I had trouble with immunet on a update first off. took it off and downloaded from another site and no probs now. cheers

Hi GREGO, as long as you exclude Immunet's Program Files folder into MSE's Exception List that "greatly reduces the chance" of a compatibility/false positive problem. It is recommended to add an Exclusion for MSE's Program Files folder into Immunet's Exclusion List as well. That would just take a few clicks of the mouse to complete if you haven't done it already. If, however, you need further assistance on how to do either of these things feel free to Private Message me and I'll give you detailed instructions on how to create these exclusion/exception rules.
