alfred
All, Based off user feedback we've decided to explore (and likely build) a new browser toolbar to protect against known bad URLs, phishing attacks etc. I'd like to hear your thoughts on this. Name, what features do you think a product like this should have? Best, al
Lord Ami
I have never found toolbars on my browser I just don't like them in general. What about addition to Immunet Protect itself? Like WOT has. Something similar. Or you want toolbar?

My goal is create something in the same vein as WOT, Linkscanner etc. Not a toolbar per se. al
Pedersen
I like the idea, I was myself one of those who requested this. You can use the malware domains sites like malwaredomainlist to gather bad IP/sites/downloads for users.
Lord Ami
Name: Immunet WebProtect? Do you plan to add reputation system or bad URLs etc are managed only by Immunet itself? I think it should be simple add-on, but I don't know more...there are many examples of these tools (WOT, Linkscanner etc) Also, do yo plan to use cloud to detect malware hosting sites etc? The short answer to all of the is, I am not sure yet. I will be defining the features over the next two weeks with the team here and delivering something to beta in the fall. At it's most basic level it will: 1. Block known malware URL's. 2. Allow for a repudiation/FP submission in the product for FP's. 3. Allow for submitting known malware sites in the product. Beyond that, I am still thinking it through and looking for feedback. Best, al
Pedersen
Use the community and make a WOT like status together with the feature you just described. I think that would be a great success
dallas7
Sure. That would certainly benefit users who might some how have their resident browser protection disabled or broken and not know it. Not that this ever happens. And it would certainly make the product more attractive. Most folks don't have any additional filtering established (WOT, third party DNS, Adblock Plus, etc.) and even if they do, more filtering is better filtering. One can't have too much IP/Web filtering in my book. How would the user be alerted? Like the current Cloud Notification pop-up? May I suggest "ignore" and "add to whitelist" options? A quick on/off switch would be welcome, though. Maybe like the one featured in Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware. I've attached a screen shot. (Yes, my tool bar is on top where God meant it to be.) Are you planning for that to be a Free or Plus component?
Guest Armin Pasalic
Great idea Alfred! Remember GOOGLE CHROME! I hope you add to all the web browsers. What it should have: 1. Comments from other users about the Site. 2. Rating about it. 3. Everytime someone rates the site, the information is being send to Immunet Experts, and they will check out the website(If you have sparetime) I think it should be like this. Cheers, Armin. Name, what features do you think a product like this should have? Best, al Al, I hope you can use services like HpHosts and MVPS Hosts to block bad IPS You can also make the toolbar family friendly by adding a Parental Control option to block pornographic sites You can also give an option for us to rate sites
Guest Mature
Alfred I thought this browser protection you mean another additional app not only block the balck sites also prevent unknown threats like 0days and infected pages,Maybe like Hautesecure/AVG linkscanner/ZoneAlarm ForceField or even Sandboxie or DefenseWall Mature edit:ah...came up a name of it-----Immunet Surf Guard
sg09
Please don't make a toolbar based protection. Then many web browers will not be protected like Safari, Chrome, Opera. Please make something realtime like Trend Micro eb Protection Addon, MBAM Ip blocker, Avast webshield type. That will also be able to block botnet attacks. iTrendsNET
How about "Immunet Inject" for the name for this tool? Regarding what this tool should do, I like the ideas already posted.
markusg
please! no user ratings... for exsample: person x hates person y and say, ok go to the website and i give it a bad rating... so user y has perhaps an problem. collect the websites an user is visiting and analyse it on your server. and please make not such thinks like " green buton" the site is safe. because the site was perhaps safe when the user or immunet visit it, but it must not be safe now.b
Malware Check
Exploit and Iframe detection would be nice.
Malcontent
Something like 'Malwarebytes Pro' IP Blocking would be nice. Seems to be browser independent. A lot of malware can be stopped this way. No matter how often the malware authors change the viruses, if the IP is blocked, their malware won't be able to spread.

We are sitting down to start planning next week for the features, hoping to ship in the early fall. al

A lot of malware can be stopped this way. No matter how often the malware authors change the viruses, if the IP is blocked, their malware won't be able to spread. Thanks for that, I will take a look at it today. I think our solution will have components which are independent of the browser but we also want to implement a 'safe search' like capability so it will require a toolbar of sorts. al
alfred
Al, I hope you can use services like HpHosts and MVPS Hosts to block bad IPS You can also make the toolbar family friendly by adding a Parental Control option to block pornographic sites You can also give an option for us to rate sites So, first, I think user rating is a good idea and it's likely something we will look at as the toolbar/feature matures. I have a very, very low opinion of HpHosts as I think it's easily gamed and does not seem to enforce a TTL on it's entries which is a bit of a problem for sites wrongly identified by them. Having said that, it is free so we will look at using parts or and and contributing back where we can. al

What you have described is exactly what we want to build (minus the virtualization part). It will be an iterative process of course but you've summed it up nicely. al
alfred
Amen to that too. Whatever you do, don't involve a browser 'tool bar'. It's going to have to be expressed as a toolbar so we can secure search results, so while it's not ideal it's the way it's going to pan out. Of course, nothing precludes us from adding features which are browser independent. I really do not want to build plugins/bho's for IE/FF/Chrome etc. if I can avoid it but protecting against SEO poisoning etc. requires we have the ability to frame a users searches. al
alfred
Exploit and Iframe detection would be nice. Agree, something which would detect rogue js and iframe attacks would be nice. That's likely a little further down the road but I agree it's a good feature to have. al
