dallas7
AVG 2011 will include a cloud component, too. I'm testing their Beta 2 which plays well with Immunet Free. AVG 2011 RC1 will be out soon at which time I'll bump Immunet up to Plus and see what's what.
alfred
Ultimately, everyone must move to the cloud. The AV problem as become a 'big data' problem. Moving to the cloud is a given, the question really becomes, what will you do once you've moved there and will it be just a bolt-on to a moribund client who is still getting fatter and fatter. al
dallas7
Fat moribund clients aside local defs for off line mobile devices and scanners for removable media and network shares will always need to be addressed. Well until, of course, nothing can go off line anymore...

Well until, of course, nothing can go off line anymore... Yep, I completely agree. Our free version will be shipping Offline protection this coming year as well for exactly that reason. We should have defs and our two generic engines available in 'Offline' mode. However, we will be highly aggressive about product/def package sizes then as well. I think you can still do this and provide a light weight product. al

I also noticed that Avast is working on the next version which is also going to be cloud centric but they have not released it out for public testing yet. I guess everyone is jumping into the cloud including this little security app, WinPatrol http://billpstudios.blogspot.com/2010/09/winpatrol-cloud-edition-public-beta.html

alfred
Some of my friends uninstalled Immunet saying it slowed down their computers especially it was hard on CPU I also started thinking that it isn't light weight as before There have been 0 changes other than bug fixes since our June release so I suspect that's anecdotal. Meaning, it is as fast or slow as it was June 1 when we released it. AV often becomes the bogeyman for any slowdown of a computer, guilty or otherwise. al

xarc
I am testing Norton Internet Security 2011 Is Immunet compatible with it? I use NIS latest version 18.1.0.37 and I didn't find any problem with it. it runs smoothly with Immunet Protect Free edition near it.
ritchie58
I use IObit's Advanced System Care Pro utility app on my machine and recently they asked to contribute to a survey they're doing. They are thinking about getting into the antivirus business as well. Of course I submitted my request that if they follow through to make their AV a cloud based application instead of a traditional signature download AV. Have to wait and see what they do. If they do enter development I doubt I would change what I've got now. I would keep Panda and Immunet. They seem to work well together since I haven't been infected with anything for some time. Knock on wood, I hope that trend continues!
dallas7
...so I suspect that's anecdotal. Anecdotal is exactly what it is. People throw around "light" and "bloated" and "heavy" when those terms have never been defined and with rare exception on what hardware. An Atom or i7? WiFi or Gigabit (a factor in cloud awareness)? For the record, my old 1 GHz P3 clunker doesn't even know Immunet Plus is there. Anecdotally, of course.

Is not really a carry, I may have misunderstood what I meant is that the solution clouds is a revolution and that other products are adapting. christhomas
I guess, after say 50 years If we are still following the same traditional way, then the initial definition updates will be around 1GB Cloud solves this problem I guess. Maybe I am wrong.
