Can't update to new release 7.5.10.21498 on Windows 7

Recommended Posts

Hi,

does the new release 7.5.10.21498 works on Windows 7?

When I try to update or to install a clean installation just get this: "Windows update required-Unable to proceed with the installation."

What's the problem?

Why are you still using Windows 7? "Microsoft ended all support for this Operating System including updates, security patches, bug fixes or improvements back in January of 2020!"

Microsoft also ended support for Win 8 & 8.1 at the beginning of this year so I would suggest you "seriously consider" upgrading to Windows 10 or 11 ASAP! You run the very real risk of becoming a victim of hackers or malware the longer you continue to use Win 7!

According to Immunet's official home page Win 7 is still supported so I don't think this platform is not supported with this current 7.5.10 build. I haven't been told otherwise. https://www.immunet.com/index

Just an extrapolation on my part, it is possible that you never received or installed an important OS update required to install some newer software packages.

Regards, Ritchie...

Thanks Ritchie,

I think you are right that I probably never "installed an important OS update required to install some newer software packages." I'm just looking for which one. How can i find that? Is there any log file with that info? And where is it located?

I did a little research and I believe that is an issue with Win 7 if you never installed Service Pack 1.

Did you get a chance to install SP1 before Microsoft ended support? To see if it was installed open the Start menu -> click on Control Panel -> click on Windows Update.

You do have the option to directly contact Microsoft Support about this issue. Just click on this URL link to do that. https://support.microsoft.com/en-us

I know that some older computers may not have the system resources (RAM, CPU, drive space) to upgrade to a newer OS. Is that the case with you?

Thank you Ritchie,

My Win 7 already has SP1 installed. And most of all updates until 18-Feb-22.

I just love Win 7 and don't wanna upgrade. Despite all the risks that exist.

I really appreciate your effort and desire to help me.

Cheers!

I thought that maybe the issue was with the SP1 update, sorry I was wrong on that!

Like I mentioned in my previous thread to this topic you can contact Microsoft Support about the issue you're encountering.

Yeah, I loved my Win 7 Ultimate x64 too! It was a very stable platform to use and I knew it like the back of my hand. But my old computer gave up the ghost (a motherboard issue) and the one I purchased already had Win 10 Pro (Business Edition) x64 pre-installed.

It was a bit of a learning curve to get to know Win 10 but it wasn't as difficult, as I thought it would be, to transition to the new OS.

Best wishes, Ritchie...

Was this issue ever resolved?  Did you find what windows update that is required?

I have the same problem with Windows Home Server 2011 (Server 2008 R2).  Yes I know it's EOL.  Yes I also still use Windows 7 too.

I have been running Immunet Version 7.5.8 for quite some time with no problems so this is puzzling.

Please post if you have found a solution other than a system OS upgrade. (Why do they call them upgrades when your stuff stops working?)

Hi Airguy,

Regarding the dev team, I haven't heard anything new about this issue. I'm not even sure if they ever looked into this to determine if it actually is a bug with Immunet's newest build or not to be perfectly honest.

I'm sorry to inform you that Windows Home Server 2011 is not a supported platform with Immunet Airguy. You can check that out yourself at Immunet's official home site, just click on the Requirements tab or scroll down the page. https://www.immunet.com/index

Best wishes, Ritchie...

Thanks for the reply, ritchie58.  Just FYI, Windows Home Server 2011 is a version of Windows Server 2008 R2, so it should be supported.  It's the main reason I came to Immunet as it's getting harder and very expensive to get protection for servers.  I hope it's resolved. In the meantime I will continue to use 7.5.8 as it works fine.

Please post any updates on this issue.  I DM'd the original poster to find out if they found a solution, but I don't know if they are still around or not.

Thanks.

Hey Airguy,

Windows Home Server 2011 does indeed share many architectural similarities with Server 2008 R2.

Although Home Server 2011 is not "officially supported" I can see that Immunet could be used & function properly with this platform since 2008 R2 is supported.

Cheers, Ritchie...

Yes it does.  It's been running fine for quite some time now.  It sure would be nice to upgrade beyond 7.5.8.  I am wondering if they have moved on from "legacy" operating systems and going only with Win 10 and above now.  I will watch this thread and also do some more research and post if I find anything.

Instead of attempting to update through the UI would you like to do a manual uninstall & reinstall of Immunet with Home Server 2011?

Given the circumstances, I could understand if you don't want to but If you give that a try, when the uninstaller asks if you plan to reinstall Immunet again choose the 'NO' option & proceed with the remainder of the uninstall.

This gives you the cleanest uninstall by deleting any custom settings, scheduled scans & exclusions you may have been using, plus all the old .db history files. Obviously, if all goes well, you will have to reconfigure Immunet to your preferences again after reinstalling.

Here is a URL link to download the newest 7.5.10 installer package here. https://download.immunet.com/binaries/immunet/bin/ImmunetSetup.exe

Immunet does use a boot-strapper installer which means that an uninterrupted internet connection is necessary for the installation process. Also, make sure your firewall or other installed security program(s) doesn't block or interfere with the install.

Best wishes, Ritchie...
