Immunet Disconnected

Recommended Posts

Hello, If disconnected from the internet - Immunet reports it's disconnected.

It then has a click-able object "FIX". If you click it - it directs you to a support web page, which obviously doesn't work since your not connected to the internet.

I suggest that the help documentation be provided offline in a help file.

If your internet connection doesn't work, (Firefox, Explorer....) as I understand, you should check your connection. If only Immunet is disconnected, it's probably under a firewall.

Have you got any firewall?

Hy Kyle,:)

What version of Immunet do you have? In my current version 2.0.17.31 the words "Fix"es are taken away and replaced by a reddish splash rectangle promoting upgrading to the Immunet PLUS!

Cheers,

Immunet free work well only with the internet connection, if there isn't it doesn't work and it tries to connect to the internet.

I'm using Immunet plus.

Why's this so hard to get across?? :unsure:

If your disconnected from the internet, immunet offers a FIX link to a support page website. Which obviously you can't access because there is no internet connection.

I don't understand your problem, Immunet says "Fix" for a better protection, but if you have Immunet Protect Plus you are protected also offline, it says "Fix" for haveing a maximum protection level.

What Kyle is saying, if a user, for some reason, ends up with no internet connection the "Fix It" appears in the GUI. If you click on the "Fix It" it directs you to the online support page. If you have no internet connection the page would never load of course. That's where a offline help or read me file you can access from the GUI would come in handy, as Kyle has suggested, especially for a novice PC user. Very good idea Kyle.

Any word from Immunet?

Heres a little Q\A I heard when doing management...

scenario:

Boss tells you to pack all of these boxes by the end of the day... your on a strict time schedule, A customer comes by and needs a hand shown where an item is amongst other things.

What do you do?

(1) help the person, do it regardless of your bosses schedule.

(2) say sorry to the person, your busy - go and see front desk.

The answer is 1. You wouldn't have boxes to stack without the customer.

P.S, The comment was not alone sparked by this thread. I've seen other cases so I felt that it needed to be mentioned.

Kyle,

You're absolutely right. "Fix It" is retarded and I won't bother making excuses.

First, let me give you the most likely reasons why you're disconnected:

* You're not connect to the Internet at all (not likely because of your post)

* You're behind a Proxy. We do not support proxies and this can stop your connectivity

* You're behind a gateway firewall that will stop the outbound traffic.

* You run a client firewall that is not allowing the connection. You have to configure the firewall to allow iptray.exe and agent.exe to do outbound connections.

* You open up your Windows Task Manager, show processes for all users, and see two instances of iptray.exe running. Only one instance of iptray.exe can talk to one instance of agent.exe

* In taskmanager you don't see Agent.exe running. This can take the form of many things. It could start-up and crash. It could start-up and not find the local.xml and exit. There could be a piece of malware running preventing it from running.

Now, let's talk about "Fix It". What do you want it to do? We couldn't decide and was running out of time to get the product released. Offline documentation is painful to maintain and quickly out of date and really only covers one case.

Hey thanks for reply, to clear it up - I was disconnected from the internet intentionally (the plug was pulled)

You do however raise another interesting point, You may have an internet connection but are still unable to connect properly!

As for a solution, I'm not very rich on idea apart from either an offline solution of documentation or...

You could check check for a valid connection, which obviously you do...but maybe not 100% effectively. It MAY BE that Immunet Protect is only having issues with itself connecting to the Immunet servers (which could be verified by pinging another server(s)) not apart of Immunet.

Even that might fail if your trying from agent.exe, However I know in my programing experience your able to use commands as if you were using cmd.

Example in python would be;

>>> import os

>>> os.system("ping www.google.com")

Maybe there could be something similar worked out?

Doing something as such may be able to let the user know if a firewall is blocking the connection as-well by using system internals as AFAIK commercial firewalls by default do not block outgoing connections from the OS..

Now, let's talk about "Fix It". What do you want it to do?

Get rid of it.

Or let it run some kind of in product test for ports connectivity. I recall some BitTorrent apps like Azureus that tested for their funky 6881 port and reported success or failure. You could do the same for your port 32137. Which is also funky. ;)

Cheers.

I just talked to Al, we're going to get rid of it in the short-term. I'm trying to talk him to more a diagnostics like you described. Something like:

* Resetting Connection to Agent

* Successfully/Failed to connect agent

* Resetting Agent to Cloud Connection

* Successfully/Failed to connect to Cloud over X protocol

* Successfully/Failed to connect to Cloud over Y protocol

* Successfully/Failed to connect to Cloud over Z protocol
