New Release: Immunet 6.5.0

Recommended Posts

Hello all,

We are happy to announce a new release of Immunet: Version 6.5.0!

This latest version of Immunet provides the same great protection against malware and viruses as before, but also includes Orbital.

Orbital uses cloud technology similar to Immunet to look for complex indicators of compromise on the machine.  Over the next couple of months, the Orbital service will be periodically scanning your device in an attempt to fine-tune our Indicators of Compromise and generate useful feedback to the Immunet users. If you choose to install 6.5.0 Beta, you will see an additional install in "C:\Program Files\Orbital." You will also see intermittent traffic from the Orbital service as it looks for other patterns we associate with compromised machines.

You can get the new installer here. https://download.immunet.com/binaries/immunet/bin/ImmunetSetup.exe

If you are running an older version of Immunet, you should be able to upgrade via the 'Update Now' button in the UI. If you don't see the update in your UI we recommend uninstalling Immunet and reinstalling the version downloaded from http://www.immunet.com/index

I do have some questions.

Is this new Orbital code associated with the folks at IronOrbit & their Orbital Security software?

Since you did mention that version 6.5.0 is a beta build, I have to assume that this is a open to the general public beta testing program that's being implemented, is that correct?

If any code is included with Immunet that makes it's efficacy that much better is definitely a good thing, that's if it doesn't impact system resources to a negative degree.

Also, a "complete change log" would be very beneficial. Just wondering if the most recent issue with scans not completing with some users were looked into & (hopefully) rectified.

Best wishes, Ritchie...

Hi Ritchie

No, new Orbital code is not associated with IronOrbit.

Yes, this beta is open to the general public. Participation is appreciated.

Reg. complete change log - v6.5.0 beta build does not fix any existing issues related scans not completing or talking very long time. Potential fixes will be coming in future release.

Thanks for the clarification on the info nirmeshptl, much appreciated! I was curious if this beta build had any new bug fixes included with it's code.

Count me in! Installed 6.5.0.11255 from 6.3.0 last night.
I installed through the UI. It did take several reboots for the install to complete for some reason. I checked the Program Files & Program Files x86 directory and cannot find a new folder for Orbital although the new 6.5.0 folder did install within Immunet's Program Files Folder (see images). I was starting to wonder why I wasn't getting any new internet connection alerts with my firewall.

I'll go ahead and do an uninstall & reinstall with the new bootstrapper to see if I get that Orbital Program Files folder installed this time & let ya know. OS: Win 7 Ultimate X64 SP1

P.S. - I corrected the issue of Avenger's original URL's not working due to an encryption algorithm error occuring. The links work now!

Ok, I did a reinstall & still no Orbital Program Files directory can be found. Is the Orbital folder/files encrypted and hidden from view or was it decided not to use Orbital with this new beta build?

The Admin Rob. Turner did contact me and informed me how the new Orbital code will function. If it's not needed for any vulnerabilities associated with your system that Orbital can protect you against then it will not be installed. Otherwise you will see Orbital installed.

Here's what Rob sent me in a PM: Hi Ritchie, 6.5.0  does support Orbital but I'm told it's only activating on computers with specific vulnerabilities determined via a combination of (hardware, windows version, patch level, features, and software) , if your machine doesn't meet the requirements (i.e. isn't vulnerable to anything Orbital can protect you from)  then you won't see a program files/Orbital directory or orbital Windows Service at all.
