Percent Of Scan

It should be percent of scan in Scan Window.

We could do that, but it would increase the scan time. We would have to go through the entire file system, calculate which files are scannable base on which engines are turned on and what exclusions you have and queue them for scanning. Then we would scan through them. This would increase the scan time significantly and we'd rather not do that.

Process bar still need to know how many files to scan before it will be able to show how long you got. So yes the same problem as percent

The best I can think of is displaying the last scan time of that type for Full & Flash Scans. Because Custom scan can vary a lot based on what your scanning, I don't think it'd there. Would that give you an idea of progress?

Hi Millard,

I understand that both showing Percent of Scan or a Scan Progress Bar comsume to much resources, OK we leave it, because fast and light-weight scanning is the most important thing!

Now, I wonder, if the scan can show not only the file, but also the whole path to the file. If the scan is done in alphabetical order, then we will get a rough estimate how far the scan has gone anyhow!

Or will this full path view also hamper scan-time, CPU usage or resourse-using?

Cheers,

Full path shouldn't take any more resources or time. The only concern would be fitting it on the UI panel, but seems like we could find a way. I'll kick it around the office as a possible solution and confirm we are scanning alphabetically.

Hi Millard,

When I do a full scan of my computer (Immunet 3.0.0.18 Free without ClamAV, but with options "Scan Archive Files = On" & "Scan Packed Files = On"), the scan takes almost 5 hours, and during this time I see only individual files! I do not see the path to the file and not even what drive is scanning. I have seen, that there are many lines (rows) below "Scanning:", so it should be possible to show the whole path from the drive letter via directories and subsequent subdirectories to the individual file. If the space (number of rows) are not sufficient, then the full path should automatically be abbreviated thus:

Show the drive letter and the initial directories only. The middle directories could be shown in a short manner like: \...\...\...\...\.... Then the last directories of the path should be shown in full again ending with the file at the end!

Many malware scanning softwares are using this way to show the path, when space is limited. Why is not Immunet implementing this? To show the path in this way will give the Immunet scanning a professional appearance and above all: This method will give the user a good view what is now scanned and finally a full control, if Immunet is really scanning all drives (in full mode or in customized mode)

This is an old important topic, that has been forgotten for some reason! (Scanning performance percentage has already been skipped due to high resource utilization!)

Cheers,

sweidre

I know an option to include some sort of progress bar in the U.I. has been touched upon before, and I was in favor of such an addition, I honestly would not be in favor of such an addition if it impacted program performance. The old saying goes: If it ain't broke, don't fix it. Of course that doesn't "really" apply to software as new workarounds and improvements can be implemented in future builds so if a happy medium can be reached I'd say go for it!

Hi all,

Progress measurement as a bar or a percentage has already been skipped, because that might decrease of scan speed! (Nobody accepts decrease of scan speed!). Millard wrote, that showing the full path to the file just subject to scanning can be shown though and will not hamper the scan speed. He was a little uncertain if there was space enough to show the whole path. I have seen, that there are many lines (rows) for the path and that those lines (rows) are already in use for individual files with long names. So in my mind, the full path can be shown when scanning, especially if the directories and subdirectories in middle of the path are just shown as \...\..\...\..\...\. Many scanners are using this method, when they are out of space. So, I want Millard to comment on this!

Hi,

Unfortunately, the title of this thread is "Percent of Scan". Percentage of scan progrees will hamper the scan speed, so I think all have agreed to not showing "percentage" at all. According to Millard, showing the full path to the file subject to scanning is a possible way. Personally, I prefer showing the path instead than a percentage of scan. The title of this thread should be changed into eg. "Path Scan", but the title of the thread cannot be changed!

Hi,

As this thread is very old, the heading of this thread should be changed from "Percent of Scan" into "Show Scan Path". "Percentage of scan" or "Scan Progress Bar" are since long skipped by all, because both Percentage & Progress Bar consume too much resources, that will slow Immunet down. Everybody will keep Immunet light and fast! Millard mentioned, that showing the path to the file subject to scanning, will not slow Immunet down. The present heading of this thread is completly misleading!

Cheers,

sweidre

PS. As I am not the originator of this thread, I cannot myself change the heading of this thread! But Serpher can! DS.
