I installed Tuesday and today I had to use System Restore in Safe Mode to uninstall it. I had nothing but trouble from the beginning once it was installed. Boot up time started to slow to a crawl until it got to the point where I couldn't get past the Welcome screen and the Desktop wouldn't load. Since I used System Restore everything is working as it did before. I'm going to do some research and see if other people are reporting bad behavior after installation of SP1 for Win 7. russland Posted February 24, 2011 Report Share Posted February 24, 2011 I installed SP1 as of 2-23-11, boot time seems unchanged, everything seems to be functioning as normal. Without Windows Explorer your Desktop will not load. After doing some research on some other forums I found that some other users were experiencing the same issue. Primarily users of 64 bit systems were encountering this bug. I'm not too happy with Microsoft for releasing this, in my opinion, prematurely before all the bugs were worked out. On another note if you've been installing all the important security and performance enhancing updates to begin with this Service Pack update is not critical. I even disabled Comodo, Panda Cloud and IMP during the download and install process just in case one of my security programs was interfering with the installation. The result? Exactly the same as last time. Once SP1 was installed I couldn't get past the Welcome screen. I had to uninstall it "again' to get my computer to work. sweidre Posted March 8, 2011 Report Share Posted March 8, 2011 Hi Ritchie, I´m sorry to hear, that you had problems to install SP1! I have Win 7 64-bit Pro and used the Windows Update. The downloading time was about 30 min, and the installation about 10 minutes after automatic reboot. System files in use could not be updated, when they were running. They were instead installed during automatic shutdown & restart. I was advised not to interupt shutdown and/or startup. My computer works now alright, but SP1 increased my c-drive with about 2 GB (a minor hickup!) I hope, that you have a backup (ghost) of your systemdrive, so you can try again! Maybe you need several trials, with or without certain security softwares! During my XP era I was unable to upgrade from SP2 to SP3. Microsoft Sweden told me, that certain security softwares might have put keys/values in the registry in positions, that were meant for SP3! When uninstalling, unfortunately all directories, files, and registry items are often not removed. There is a freeware "Revo uninstaller" (freeware), that is said to clean up all the traces. I have a shareware: "Your uninstaller" doing this for me. I have just heard, that IObit has developed a free uninstaller, that CNET praised. I have not tested this one, so I cannot comment about it further! Tell me, how you are proceeding! By the way, tomorrow tuesday is it time for the monthly windows update again!
