Internet Explorer 9 Now Avaliable For Download

Recommended Posts

Microsoft has publicly released Internet Explorer 9 for download. Users of Vista and Windows 7 can now install the upgraded browser. Unfortunately users of Windows XP will have to stick with IE8 as IE9 is incompatible with this operating system. To download IE9 from CNET click here.

64 bit versions of IE9 for Vista and Windows 7 can be found from Softonic here.

Hi Ritchie,

Well I got the Swedish IE9 RC x64 & IE8 x32, when I installed my Swedish OS Win 7 Pro x64! As IE is the center of the OS, I expect that new offical releases of IE will come thru Windows Update ( in my case Microsoft Sweden ). Swedish versions are normally coming a few days after the English versions. (I should not mix languages in the OS, I think). I looked at some screenshots of the English IE9 and it looked really interesting.

Cheers,

sweidre

I figured Microsoft will eventually push the upgrade to users through the automatic updates. Perhaps on next Patch Tuesday? Not sure about that so don't quote me. I could be wrong.

Sweidre, I was thinking about upgrading to IE9 and not waiting for Microsoft to push it through using Windows Update. With 7 Ultimate it comes installed with both the 32 and the 64 bit versions. The 32 bit version is initially configured as the default browser after installation of the operating system. So I'm wondering if I should install both versions. Maybe I should ask Shane about that. I bet he would know.

Sweidre, I just checked the CNET link. It takes you to the Microsoft IE9 download site. There you can download the Svenska language version for your operating system now.

Hi Ritchie,

Last night I received a Windows Update with one update only: IE9 Win7 64-bits (Swedish version). I got it downloaded & installed successfully! I spend a few hours to make a Norton Ghost of my C-drive ( I do so every time I get important updates.) I was sleepy, so I did not test it. I saw only a long list with new features. It was a notice though, that 64-bits version cannot be your default browser. I will test it closer some day. A little bit strange, that the 32-bits version was not coming at the same time! I have now IE9 64-bit & IE8 32-bit (both Swedish). I think, the 32-bit version will come another night. Strange, that all Windows Updates are always coming in the middle of the Swedish night. Anyhow, I prefer to wait and see. Regarding Windows Updates of the OS, I prefer do have them downloaded from Microsoft and not from a 3rd party!

Cheers,

sweidre

Glad to hear you got both version installed. I went ahead and installed the 64 bit version but I think I'll wait for Microsoft to push the 32 bit version to me. Another thought occurred to me. Would if Window Update sees that I already have the 64 bit version installed and assumes that the 32 bit version has been upgraded as well. I'll wait a reasonable amount of time and then install manually if that's the case. I already have the 32 bit installer downloaded and ready to go.

Hi Ritchie,

My IE9

Yes, I have got both IE9 64-bit & IE9 32-bit installed, I think. On the IE9 64-bit version, it is written, that is 64-bit version. It is also written on it, that a 64-bit version cannot be your default browser. It will not accept some toolbars like G-Data or StumbleUpon. The IE9 32- version has not the words "32-bits" written after IE9, though. This latter version accepts toolbars like G-data and StumbleUpon, and I can set it as my default browser, if I want to. Both versions have the same options like "What is new in version 9?". So, for me, it is evident, that I have received both the 64 & 32-bit versions via one single Windows Update.

Your IE9

You have received IE9 64-bit from CNET. I see your dilemma now regarding IE9 32-bit. I assume, that you have a 32-bit also. The question now is, is that 32-bit version IE8 or IE9? Check that first, because maybe the 32-bit version has automatically turned from IE8 into IE9, when you installed the 64-bit version! If that is not the case, you should telephone to Microsoft Technical Support and ask them, what is best to do in your situation. In Sweden we can phone to Microsoft support, is that possible in the US?

Cheers,

sweidre

PS. Today I received one more Windows Update: Update for Windows 7 for x64 based system (KB2524375) = Important. DS.
