Hi Rascal & Others!

Trend Micro HijackThis v. 2.0.4

HijackThis can be downloaded from:

1.) From CNET:

http://download.cnet...4-10227353.html

2.) From FileHippo:

http://www.filehippo...ch?q=HiJackThis

HijackThis - Tutorial

Can be downloaded from here:

"HijackThis – Quick Start!"

http://www.whatthetech.com/hijackthis/

HijackThis - Video

Watch this video from Youtube;

"Hijackthis and Freefixer Manual Malware removal tools"

Cheers,

sweidre

Comments: Her video contained:

1. Hijackthis instruction and report reading/ticking

2. Control Center (for deletion of rouges)

3. Regedit (winlogon)

4. Malwarebytes' should be have been scanning, but it was jumped over

5. Freefixer (seems to be like Hijackthis, but colored so that green items were in green, others were whiteish and could be ticked from deletion) Anyhow, it seemed to be a control of Hijackthis!)

PS. But do not edit your computer based upon the report from HijackThis, unless you are a real expert! DS

Hi,

Very usefully, I think I'll do a similar video.

Orlando

Hi Orlando, rascal66 & others interested in HijackThis,

When you watch the youtube video on the link given on a post above, just when the English (UK) lady has finished her main video of HijackThis, there are a few image links shown at the bottom of the video screen for a few seconds. These links leads to more HijackThis related videos. But be alert, when the British lady just finished her main video, and you will then notice those links for a few seconds!

Cheers,

sweidre

Hi,

I have just done one, please watch it here.

Orlando

Hi Orlando,

Your video was OK for me, but it should better, if it was provided with:

1. Sound (why not one Italian version with your voice & a second version with an English commentator?)

2. Zoom in more often! (You zoomed in many times, but not always. In some cases the text was very small; OK, maybe I should have I looked at in FULL SCREEN!)

3. You placed the analysis report (zipped) into the main category "Malware Removal". I suggest to create a subcategory "HijackThis Reports" under the main category "Malware Removal", because there will be many of them! The HijackThis report can then be named with the name of the report (eg. John Peterson 2011-04-19) as beginning to a thread in John's name.

Cheers,

sweidre

1. Sound (why not one Italian version with your voice & a second version with an English commentator?)

I will do it certantly, I haven't put sound for copyrights.

2. Zoom in more often! (You zoomed in many times, but not always. In some cases the text was very small; OK, maybe I should have I looked at in FULL SCREEN!)

In the future I will do this point better.

3. You placed the analysis report (zipped) into the main category "Malware Removal". The HijackThis report can then be named with the name of the report (eg. John Peterson 2011-04-19) as beginning to a thread in John's name.

This is possible, it should ask this to Millard or RobT, but now there aren't too much.

Thanks,

Orlando

Hi, here is a Video by Smithfraudfixpro.com about HijackThis:

"Hijackthis | Remove A Virus With Hijackthis" Enjoy!

Cheers,

Comments: This video is the very best so far:

1. Detailed description of downloding from Trend Micro.

2. Setup information

3. System scan

4. Scan report into WordPad

5. Copy

6. Paste into special box at the website

7. Press "analysis" button

8. Website shows after analysis a report with green marks and yellow/red X:es. Just examine this (ex.via Google Search) and tick/untick corresponding items in your own report.

9. That's it!

Excellent, indeed!!!

Trend Micro has a new public beta version of HiJack This available. Version 2.0.5 (Beta) can be found at the Trend Micro web site here.

Hi Ritchie,

In the heading of this thread, I have added, that there is a 2.0.5 Beta available for testing, if anybody will use a non-final product!

Hi, here at Wilders Security Forums some alternatives to HiJackthis are mentioned:

"HijackThis alternatives"

http://www.wilderssecurity.com/showthread.php?t=279930

Here are some alternatives to HijackThis that aren't mentioned often around here:

1. FreeFixer

Doesn't show operating system files - they are whitelisted, likely by filename

Files with valid digital signatures from trusted vendors are highlighted in green and aren't allowed to be deleted

Has a file deleter that runs early in the boot process

Lists DLLs loaded into FreeFixer.exe, Svchost.exe, Explorer.exe, Internet Explorer, and some others - helpful for finding DLL malware

FreeFixer seems like a fine program. Why don't more people here use it?

2. Hijack Hunter

Optionally excludes operating system files

Has a file deleter

Has a lot of restorers to fix malware damage

3. OTL by OldTimer

Is being used as a replacement for HijackThis in some malware removal forums

Optionally can use whitelists to filter various types of items. I don't know for sure if the whitelists are based on filenames or file hashes, but the scanning

Cheers,

sweidre
