3.0.1.656 Better Performance

Recommended Posts

Since upgrading to the latest ver of free 3.0 .. using CLAM on XP Home SP3, IE8, I notice a lot less 'disk activity' .. practically none compared to the previous release. Previous release kept HD 'busy' a tremendous amount of time ... and this newer ver doesn't. Result is much faster browsing etc. Nice work, programmers. It runs like a normal, well-behaved application .. as opposed to before.

Hi,

I am always using Immunet Protect Free without Tetra & disactivated Clam, so for me Immunet Protect Free is working smoothly/light-weight regardless of version number! I have tested Immunet with Clam and/or Tetra and that will always slow down my computer! Note, I have ESET Smart Security (Firewall+AV+Spamfilter) in my Win 7 Pro SP1 (64-bit) computer! So for me, I prefer a pure light-weight/cloud-based Immunet only as a supplement to ESET (second opinion)!

Cheers,

sweidre

Better performance is right! Since the introduction of the ClamAV engine to Immunet I had to disable Clam, and the automatic updates for it, to avoid a serious conflict with Panda Cloud Pro 1.4 during start up. With this new version It seems to be so much more compatible with Panda now. Through experimentation of this new build I found I can keep the ClamAV engine and the automatic updates enabled during start up without both programs battling it out for bandwidth to see who gets to update first and causing a serious slowdown. They seem to actually like each other now, lol! Great improvement on this build guys! I won't have to worry about turning Clam on and off manually anymore! Fantastic!!!

Hi WacoJohn & Ritchie,

Thanks for the info, that you both find ClamAV not interferring with other online security shields anymore! Maybe, I should reconsider ClamAV and try again to have it activated! The problem is that I have aready so many security shilelds online, that I have to test ClamAV by deactiving some of them:

I have the following security shields starting with Windows: Security Package: ESET Smart Security (Firewall, AV & AntiSpam) Swe version, Cloud-based AV: Immunet Protect 3.0.1.6056 x64 FREE Eng version with ClamAV disabled, AntiMalwares: Emsisoft Anti-Malware Pro 5.1.0.10 x86, Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware Pro 1.50.1.1100 x86, SuperAntispyware Pro 4.50.1002 x64, WinPatrol Plus 20.0.2011.2 x64, CallingID LinkAdvisor 2.0.062 x64, Spamfilter: Firetrust MailWasher Pro 6.5.4 x86, Web Filter: OpenDNSUpdater 2.2.1 FREE x86. (In addition to these I have of course many Microsoft services starting with Windows).

Particularly, Emsisoft Anti-Malware Pro (Austrian) is a really resourcr hog. But I'm used to Emsisoft, because I have utilized it for many years now. When I am surfing on the Internet, it blocks me to visit a site, that it finds malicious. If it blocks my trial to visit a site, I can place that site on a whitelist, if I know, that the site is safe. Then it finds malwares, that other security products miss. Unfortunately, it often finds "false positives" and quarantine them. But a few days later it reports, that some items earlier placed in qurantine can be replaced again. So Emsisoft has both pros & cons. Many people hate Emsisoft, but after all these years, I have learnt how to cope with this software. Let's see how I will do in the beginning of Sepember, when my licence will expire.

If I remove Emsisoft maybe Clam will work friendly with the other remaining softwares at Windows upstart? In addition, maybe also Tetra will be accepted. I will wait until beginning of September, if I should extend my subscription of Emsisoft or not!

I think, that many of us are resistant to change. For instance, I kept ZoneAlarm Pro (firewall) until I changed into ESET, when I installed Win 7. Now, I can say, that I should have skipped ZoneAlarm much earlier!

An analyzis of the constlllation of all softwares starting at Windows startup should be done. There are softwares, that willl reorganize the order in which the softwares should start. (My WinPatrol is an example of these). One problem is, that many softwares, will not accept any delayed startup.

Cheers,

sweidre

Kinda funny to me .. I am running Zemana Antilogger, MS Security Essentials, Prevx, and Immunet. I hardly ever 'hear' from any of them except Immunet which have been all false positives. Brings me to wonder if I do need 'all those' .. since either they are doing a great job of protecting me or they are not finding anything bad. I am assuming I need 'em .. and with them, I am more safe than without them. To be honest, .. none of them have actually redeemed themselves in indicating I am being protected .. or I am just lucky I have not hit on a 'risk'.

WacoJohn, Your doing what sweidre and I and a lot of other people do. Using a layered approach to your PC's security. If your current set up seems to be protecting you from being infected with malware then why change a good thing. On the other hand I would consider changing things if system performance was adversely affected or a serious software conflict arose that couldn't be resolved. The apps that I use have a light footprint and generally work well together. That's why I chose them including Immunet.
